The second week of Fantasy finals is upon us, and a lot of top Captaincy options play early in the week during round 22, so it may be best to lock away our VC as early as possible this week.
Luckily, there is a clear front runner to place our VC on during the Friday night clash, along with other options early on Saturday. Let’s take a look at round 22’s best AFL Fantasy VC/C options!
Vice-Captains
The VC section of the article will be very short and sharp this week, as the obvious candidate for our VC in round 22 is Errol Gulden. Earlier in the season against the Pies, he scored 111, and last year he scored 161. Errol has scored 4 tons in a row, including a monster 151, which was one of three 150+ scores since his bye. Gulden is the perfect play as VC this week due to his ceiling and the frequency in which he hits it. Don’t overthink it, lock him in.
If you don’t happen to own Errol, you could decide to take a look at Nick Daicos after he scored 123 against the Swans earlier in the year, but the threat of James Jordon is there and I would prefer to hold off for one of the guys mentioned below who have an early game on Saturday.
With that said, let’s take a look at the top Captaincy options for round 22!
Captains
- Tristan Xerri
Back to back 150+ scores for the big X, who would have seen that coming before the beginning of the season? Averaging 143 in his last 3 games, 5 scores of 118 or more in his last 6 games and a match up with the Eagles in front of him, who Witts monstered last week on his way to 141. Oh, and Xerri scored 129 against them in round 13. Clear top pick this week, and plays early Saturday, so could be used as a VC.
- Lachie Whitfield
Whitfield is averaging 136 in his last 3 games, and 129 in his last 5, or you could just look at what he has done since his bye, which has been 9 tons in a row, at an average of 128 and a high score of 160. That is some incredible form. This week he comes up against the Lions, who he scored 105 against in round 7 from only 71% TOG. Look for Whitfield to continue his hot streak this week, in another early Saturday game, so yet another VC option.
- Harry Sheezel
The third option on the list also plays early on Saturday, which is why the VC section was so short this week. Sheezel, like Xerri, comes up against the Eagles this week, who he scored 104 against in round 13. Harry is averaging 117 over his last 3 games, and has scored 130+ twice in his last 5. Last week he managed 100 against the Tigers whilst copping some attention, so we have seen now that he will still score if the opposition pays more attention to him. I think we are witnessing the beginning of the next Scott Pendlebury who just averages 110 year after year, and we can expect him to produce at least those sorts of areas again this week.
- Adam Treloar
What a year Treloar has had averaging 112, 130 over his last 3 anc ceiling scores of 149 (3 weeks ago) and 154. This week he comes up against the Crows, which isn’t a perfect match up on recent form, which is why he isn’t higher on the list. With that said, he has only dropped below 100 once in the last 8 weeks, which was in a game where he was tagged by Will Phillips. In that same time frame, he has also recorded 6 scores of 110+. In form and a fantasy gun, he has to be given thought.
- Connor Rozee
Rozee rounds out the list this week as he heads into a great match up against the Dees. Midfielders have been pumping out huge scores against Melbourne lately, including Bont (135) and Treloar 116 last week, and Peatling (133) and Callaghan (121) the week before that. The reason it is Rozee over Butters is the fact that Butters is in front in terms of who will cop attention. Rozee scored 126 against the Swans last week, and 147 in round 17, so the ceiling is there. A risker option than the guys named above, but he could be heading towards another huge score this week.
