Fraser offers injury update on Newman hamstring

Carlton will wait on scans for defender Nic Newman who suffered a hamstring injury in Saturday’s win over Gold Coast.

Newman exited the game, which was his 150^th, early following an incident where he threw his leg at the ball to soccer it out of the air, left clutching his hamstring.

Carlton coach Josh Fraser said: “Hamstring. We’ll get more information in the next 24-48 hours, so we’ll know exactly where it sits there.”

He added: “Naturally you’d be disappointed. Milestone game, hamstring injury early – it’s part of footy unfortunately.

“He’s a great character, he’s got great support. We’ll get more information on that early in the week and see where that sits. But he’s been an important player for us.”
