The round we have all been waiting for finally arrived. Even when you know everyone is experiencing the same success it is still nice to see those big numbers popping up.
Well done to everyone who chucked the VC on Marshall on Friday night and commiserations to those who went Rozee in a coin flip. So what can we take out of this monster round?
Don’t get drawn into Boak
Well what a glorious game this was on so many fronts. Of course, for the fantasy fans it was the big RoMar (159) who basically rucked against no one and showed real intent with 10 tackles! What a great start to the weekend. Jack Steele (128) was back to his best and may be an option now and certainly a relief for those draft coaches who have been holding on. Unfortunately it seemed to coincide with the downfall of Brad Crouch (77) who has been excellent, however, I would steer clear now. A word of warning from this Port fan to those who think Travis Boak (124) may be an under-priced option this week. Wines (65) will be back in there next week and this move was only match up driven so expect his scores to be highly volatile.
Neale, Dunkley, Brayshaw fire at last
Cashcroft (115) really got going in this one, has kept his cash gen ticking along nicely and looks a viable option to the byes if needed. Junkley (115) finally had a score worth his price tag and Lachie Neale (117) kept his rollercoaster season going. Our other premiums had solid outings without being exceptional, however it was nice to see Andy Brayshaw (113) back in the triple figures. An interesting note is the suspension of Matt Johnson (63) who got his cash gen going only to get himself out of the team. Perhaps an extended run for Neil Erasmus (21) could be on the cards?
Green holders rewarded handsomely
Those who held Tom Green (136) were handsomely rewarded on his return. Errol Goldenchild (116) also found his way to a nice score and if anyone out there went the Ladhams (130) play to start the year, this was the game you have been waiting for. A sneaky POD worth considering could be Harry Perryman (115) if he maintains a nice midfield role. Meanwhile the Swans lottery continued with Warner (113) and Parker (112) on the up again (I am still an avoid FYI). Wasn’t it also nice to see Finn Callaghan (98) have one out of the box and make himself useful for a few more weeks.
Will Day holders also rewarded
A bit like Tom Green, the Will Day (100) holders were well rewarded. James Worpel (103) would now be considered a great starting pick and should make it to the byes if not beyond the way he is going. Tim English’s (99) ton run came to an end and the rest of the Doggies mids were all meh. The Doggies are right up there with the Swans at the moment and trusting either team to put up a consistent midfielder is just about impossible, be very careful with your premium choices here.
Is Aaron Hall an option?
Now we move into the first of the Saturday night drubbings. Trac (142) had his way with the hapless Roos, Clarry (125) just did his thing and those lucky holders of Kyle Chandler (104) got what they wanted. Fortunately with the ball living in North’s forward line, everyone’s favourite rookie The Cheese (126) got back to where he belongs and the enigmatic Aaron Hall (136) got everyone thinking again. Grundy (100) was not so sorely impacted by big Max and those holding would be happy enough.
You need Cincotta now
In the second blood bath of the night, Mr Newman (164) did just about anything and Mr Curnow (151) got on the end of everything. The Blues midfield continued their fantasy dominance with Cerra (137), Acres (129), Walsh (128) and Hewett (124) all going big. Alex Cincotta (77) showed he is here to stay and is now our number one green dot. An interesting one was the inclusion of Brodie Kemp (107) who is awkwardly priced, but did his chance of getting an extended run no harm in this game. On a side note kudos again to those who started Jayden Hunt (93), he has been an excellent pick. Now to see who has the guts to take on Tim Kelly (108) who has been a lone hand in that WCE team this year.
Setterfield has peaked & needs to go
A full blown attacking affair saw plenty of scoring and plenty of points. The big question for me is whether or not Jake Stringer (115) is a trap or masterstroke waiting to happen? The Bombers clearly looked better when he went inside and that role could continue… One for the brave! In other news, Parish (121) and Stewart (113) kept their good seasons going, while Danger (93) keeps ticking over. Hopefully none of you were trapped by big Sav (22), what a disaster that must have been. The question now is what to do with Will Setterfield (54) who has been an amazing pick, but may have peaked now.
Noah is a jet, buyer beware on Fiorini
It is almost safe to say now that the Tigers are done and dusted, but our man Timmy Taranto (126) does not seem to care and continues to just pump out the big scores. What a jet. The return of Jayden Short (123) has been fascinating and currently looks like he could be a great POD, particularly come the next lot of DDPs. A lot of talk this week was the opportunities with Touk Miller out, however it appears that it just means Noah Anderson (134) and Matt Rowell (110) are just going to be even better. Anderson is a legitimate premium pick now and Rowell could be sneaky value. Those who saw the chance for Brayden Fiorini (112) to step up were over the moon with his score, however buyer beware with only 3 CBAs to his name, can he keep it up as the role is not quite what we thought.
Keep an eye on Naicos this week
All the fear sent through the fantasy community with Rory Laird (110) this week turned out to be all smoke as he had one of his trademark games. As Jordan Dawson (112) copped a battering he worked hard to get down for those kick outs and ensure his coaches remained happy. Nick Daicos (99) looked on for another huge score before copping a nasty knock and could be a bit of a watch this week, however I am not worried as he ran the game out well.
We are in the thick of upgrade season now and getting those rookies of field must be a priority if you want to avoid being left behind. Pray for your midpricers to keep going and cash in those little piggies. With the byes only 5 weeks away, make sure you keep them in your planning when choosing your upgrades if you want to challenge for overall rank. Until next time 😉
