St Kilda coach Ross Lyon admits Rowan Marshall is no guarantee to take his place in their Saturday clash against Sydney.
Marshall was a late withdrawal for the Saints in Sunday’s win over North Melbourne due to a back spasm in the warm-up.
While it was only a back spasm, Lyon clarified that Marshall was no guarantee to play this round.
“We’ve got three tests, which is Ro, Campbell Lake and Cooper Sharman,” he said. “Cooper is probably unlikely.
“There’s still a bit of work to go. It wasn’t a slipped disc or anything. It was just a spasm.
“We are hopeful. The short week puts it in a little bit of doubt. If it was a normal week then probably for sure. We’ve got a few hurdles to jump.”
On Campbell Lake, Lyon added: “He saw me yesterday and I said ‘I thought they ruled you out’ and he said ‘nah, nah, I’m gonna be ready’.
“But we’ll see, we’ve got to hit the milestones.”
Collingwood utility Jordan De Goey has been unwell this week with coach Craig McRae offering an update on his chances of playing against Geelong on Thursday.
McRae said: “De Goey is actually sick. He has a viral thing. He will be named and we anticipate he plays.”
Darcy Cameron also missed training on Tuesday and has also had a big workload recently. McRae added: “Darcy has been managing his body for a couple of weeks now.
“The five-day break into a travel and combative game, he has been up against it a bit. Did what he needed to today. We’re hopeful he plays.”
McRae also provided an update on Josh Daicos after an ankle concern going into last week’s game against Adelaide.
He said: “Last week he was quite sore. Did a great job to get himself up to play. He’d left the last drill and trained well. We’ve had a couple of short turnarounds against really short opposition, so missing one drill won’t hurt him.”
