Role plays a big part in determining a player’s AFL Fantasy and SuperCoach scoring potential. In this weekly subscriber-only column, we reflect on the past round’s CBAs, kick-ins and TOG% for an insight.
Gold Coast Suns v Adelaide
CBAs (29): Nothing overly unusual in the Suns’ midfield mix, despite Jarrod Witts (25) and Touk Miller (24) slightly lower scores of 77/68 and 90/100.
Ben Keays (25) also had high CBAs for his lower score of 75/68. Jackson Hately attended no CBs for the first time since Round 7.
Kick-ins: Jack Bowes (4/3) returned from injury and had plenty of kick-ins. Jordan Dawson (4/3) took four of Adelaide’s seven kick-ins.
TOG%: Joel Jeffrey limped off late and only had 59% TOG.

GWS Giants v Western Bulldogs
CBAs (39): Stephen Coniglio (22) continued to have just over 50% CBAs, while Josh Kelly (21) and Tom Green (25) were in the thick of the rotation along with Callan Ward (29).
Tom Liberatore (28) had the most CBAs of the Dogs’ onballers, while Marcus Bontempelli (24), Adam Treloar (24) and Jack Macrae (23) were all similar. In Bailey Smith’s absence, the major beneficiaries were Liberatore (up 19% on season average), Bontempelli (up 6%) and Treloar (up 12%).
Kick-ins: Isaac Cumming (6/6) took the bulk of GWS’s kick-ins, while Harry Himmelberg (3/3) had a few and Lachie Whitfield had none. Bailey Dale (5/5) and Caleb Daniel (3/3) took most for the Dogs as per usual.
TOG%: GWS’s injury issues meant Whitfield (90%), Josh Kelly (89%) and Stephen Coniglio (86%) all had high TOG. Tim English played 85% TOG before his delayed onset concussion.
West Coast v Geelong
CBAs (24): Dom Sheed (21) slotted back in for West Coast. Elliot Yeo had no CBAs, playing a half-back role.
Kick-ins: Yeo (3/3) stepped in for the omitted Alex Witherden, while Shannon Hurn (4/3) had a few kick-ins for West Coast too.
TOG%: Yeo had 87% TOG in his first game back after a lay-off, playing a new role. Young ruck Callum Jamieson only had 60% TOG, while Cats youngster Cooper Stephens had 61%. Sam Menegola had 76% TOG on his return from injury.
Port Adelaide v Sydney
CBAs (23): Ollie Wines (20) attended the bulk of the CBs for his 105/122, while it was Connor Rozee (18) who picked up the absent Travis Boak’s CBA. Zak Butters only attended two before going off injured.
Luke Parker (18) had Sydney’s most of their mids, while Callum Mills (13) was down slightly.
Kick-ins: Riley Bonner (7/5) took seven of Port’s 11 kick-ins with Dan Houston getting none. Nick Blakey (4/4) and Jake Lloyd (3/3) mostly shared Sydney’s, although Callum Mills (1/1) popped down for his first of the season.
TOG%: Mills (91%) dropped into the backline and thus had high TOG, while Isaac Heeney (87%) was used primarily forward.

St Kilda v Essendon
CBAs (30): The Saints were fairly standard in midfield, with some cameos from the returning Hunter Clark (5), Ryan Byrnes (2) and Jack Sinclair (4) who had only had two CBAs in the previous four games.
With Darcy Parish out, Zach Merrett’s midfield share went up from 65% across the season to 83% on the night, with 25 CBAs for his 95/91.
Kick-ins: Sinclair (5/4) had the equal most kick-ins for St Kilda along with Brad Hill (5/4). Jordan Ridley (3/3) took half of Essendon’s kick-ins.
Richmond v Carlton
CBAs (23): Jayden Short (12) continues in his mid-role although attending just above 50% CBs. With Adam Cerra out, the key Blues mids had their fair share, led by Patrick Cripps (18) and Sam Walsh (16).
Kick-ins: Nick Vlastuin (5/5) took the most kick-ins of any Richmond player. Sam Docherty (6/5) and Adam Saad (6/5) had Carlton’s most kick-ins.
TOG%: Sam Docherty (88%) seemed to get stuck on the bench in the first half but ended up with high TOG.
