Role plays a big part in determining a player’s AFL Fantasy and SuperCoach scoring potential. In this weekly subscriber-only column, we reflect on the past round’s CBAs, kick-ins and TOG% for an insight.
Fremantle v Brisbane Lions
CBAs (32): Lloyd Meek’s (11) inclusion impacted Sean Darcy’s (21) midtime to an extent down to 65% having been at 76% over the previous four games, scoring 45/59.
Hugh McCluggage’s (16) return impacted Zac Bailey (1) most, while Dayne Zorko (2) spent more time outside, returning a score of 91/103.
Kick-ins: Luke Ryan (5/4) took the most kick-ins as per usual. Daniel Rich (7/7) bossed Brisbane’s kick-ins for his impressive 125/119.
TOG%: Darcy’s gametime was at 81%. Will Brodie (70%) continued his low numbers. Zorko was at 77% despite needing stitches in the second quarter.

Hawthorn v Collingwood
CBAs (23): Intrigue surrounds Tom Mitchell’s (9) return to form, particularly from an AFL Fantasy perspective, yet he had well under 50% CBAs. Mitchell scored 112/83, yet Jai Newcombe (19), the returning Jaeger O’Meara (17), Conor Nash (13) and Chad Wingard (11), plus ruckman Ned Reeves (130 all had more CBAs than him.
Darcy Cameron (13) and Mason Cox (10) split the ruck fairly evenly. Cameron still scored well, with 133/129.
Kick-ins: Hawthorn made a switch in this department, with Lachlan Bramble (6/5) and Will Day (3/2) having the most, while James Sicily (1/1) only took one for the game for a score of 84/98.
Darcy Moore (4/4) took Collingwood’s most, with Nick Daicos (1/1) only getting one, yet scoring an outstanding 109/113.
TOG%: Sicily was on the field for 100% of the game. Cameron went at 81% with Cox at 61%, showing that the former was resting forward a lot when not in the ruck.
Melbourne v Sydney
CBAs (23): The Demons’ mid set-up was fairly standard, with Max Gawn (15) having a normal ruck share with Luke Jackson (8), despite going massive with 149/198 avoided by three goals.
Sydney were also fairly standard, although Isaac Heeney (0) missed out completely for the second straight week, yet scored 87/96.
Kick-ins: Steven May’s absence and Christian Salem (4/4) meant a different look for Melbourne, with Angus Brayshaw (3/3) also getting kick-ins for the first time this season, leading to his 102/130. Nick Blakey (5/5) had five of Sydney’s seven kick-ins, with Jake Lloyd (1/1) only getting one.
TOG%: Gawn had remarkable TOG of 97% aiding his huge score. Christian Petracca shook off last week’s illness with 91% TOG.

Gold Coast v North Melbourne
CBAs (26): Matt Rowell (25) only missed one CB, scoring an impressive 107/125. Izak Rankine (2) got involved for the first time this season, scoring 74/102.
Jed Anderson (11) had more than 10 CBAs for the fourth straight week, while Jason Horne-Francis’ (8) numbers continue to slow.
Kick-ins: Lachie Weller’s (4/4) ACL injury will have an impact, but Connor Budarick (1/1) took the Suns’ only other kick-in with the injury happening late. Aidan Corr (8/8) and Luke McDonald (7/7) had plenty for North.
TOG%: Rowell showcased his tank with 85% TOG. Jed Anderson, who missed a big chunk of the early season due to his vaccine status, had 72% TOG.
Adelaide v West Coast
CBAs (23): The Crows’ midfield mix was fairly standard, although Jackson Hately was squeezed out, attending only one CB, having had 13, 16, 16 and 24 over the past four weeks. He still scored well, except for the last quarter.
Greg Clark had eight CBAs and scored 71/54, largely coming from his 10 tackles with only 11 disposals.
Kick-ins: Jordan Dawson (5/3) took five of Adelaide’s nine kick-ins. Shannon Hurn’s (7/5) return impacted Alex Witherden’s (3/3) kick-in role. Witherden scored 73/66.
TOG%: Rory Laird was best afield yet only had 75% TOG. Young Eagles ruck Callum Jamieson had only 56% TOG.

Western Bulldogs v Geelong
CBAs (26): Bailey Smith (12) went at just under 50% CBAs upon his return from illness which was around his previous mark. Jackson Macrae (14) dipped close to 50%. Buku Khamis had three CBAs as a back-up ruckman.
Rhys Stanley’s (22) return from injury impacted Mark Blicavs’ (4) ruck time a lot, leading to a score of 67/83. Cooper Stephens attended seven CBs, having had nine and 10 in the previous two games.
Kick-ins: Bailey Dale (7/7) and Caleb Daniel (3/3) led the way again for the Dogs. Tom Stewart’s (2/2) concussion meant Mitch Duncan (4/3) took the lead from kick-ins.
TOG%: Blicavs’ switch out of the ruck meant he had 94% TOG. Marcus Bontempelli also had 94% despite a shoulder worry, playing a mix of midfield and forward. Khamis only had 53% TOG in a worrying sign he may be dropped.
