Geelong coach Chris Scott has declared Tanner Bruhn will return to the side in Round 12 after being managed for the Cats’ win over Sydney last weekend.
Scott said: “Tanner will play. It was a management call that bordered on the overprotective, but in a way, especially when you win the game, you sort of think all’s well that ends well.
“We will and we have faced situations where we look back and say maybe that was a bit cautious and that cost us in some respect but I don’t think we’re in that position yet with Tanner.
“We’ve got 4 games before the bye so it’ll be nice to get him back.”
St Kilda coach Ross Lyon dismissed reports of a Rowan Marshall injury concern.
He said: “Yeah he’s fine. We flew home together the next day. He couldn’t believe the noise around it. It was just a shin.”
Lyon also offered praise to youngster Charlie Banfield. He said: “To come in, it was a really strong debut and follow-up.
“We like that he competes. And he can really run and work. They’re strong attributes. That’s a staple for AFL footy.”
Melbourne coach Steven King said Brody Mihocek was “on track” to return from injury, which may impact Max Gawn’s role, having played forward more recently rotating with Max Heath.
“He’s on track to play which will be great,” King said. “Hopefully that’s someone we can add to our team and get some experience up in the front end.”
Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell provided an update on Will Day’s status ahead of his return from long-term injury.
Mitchell said: “We know that he’s on his way back. He’s excited to be back playing footy.
“I thought even the soreness post-game, he said he missed that feeling, in a sense. That feeling is horrible. You wake up the day after a game, and you feel like you’ve been run over by a truck, and he hadn’t felt that for a while. I was pleased to have him back playing.”
Jack Gunston has been named to return. Mitchell said prior to teams being announced: “He’s a test. He moved OK yesterday. He’s got a couple of things to do today. If he becomes medically available, he’ll certainly play.”
Carlton interim coach Josh Fraser indicated Jacob Weitering is set to return. He said: “He’ll train today and we’re hoping he’ll be OK to put his hand up. He trained on Saturday while we were in Adelaide and got through the session well.
“We’re hopeful he’ll get through today. They’ve got some big forwards, he’s important to us – not only his performances but also his leadership. We’ll consider what that looks like post-training.”
