Lachie Whitfield will face a test later this week to prove his fitness for the GWS Giants’ clash with Melbourne in Alice Springs on Sunday.
The Giants half-back flanker was a late withdrawal for their win over Brisbane after a hamstring complaint sustained at training on Friday. They hoped he’d be fit, but he didn’t recover in time for Sunday’s game.
GWS’s injury report on Tuesday stated: “Whitfield will also be a test for round 12, after the 31-year-old was a late out against the Lions due to hamstring tendinopathy.”
Brisbane Lions veteran Dayne Zorko has been ruled out for a further 2 weeks due to quad tightness.
The Lions update said: “Zorko (quad) has not been able to tick the boxes required to return and will be given more time to improve and train accordingly.”
The Western Bulldogs provided an update on Tim English but remain reluctant to declare him available.
Bulldogs Head of Sports Medicine Chris Bell said: “Zac Walker, Luke Kennedy and Tim English have continued to progress within the concussion protocols. All players still have some boxes to tick, including performing within a main training session before a return-to-play plan will be confirmed.”
Fremantle has listed Caleb Serong as “1 week” with a calf concern. Dockers Fremantle Director of Performance Adam Beard said: “Caleb is going well with his calf, he will be listed as one week.”
The Dockers are hoping Hayden Young will return this week following 2 games out in concussion protocols. Sean Darcy is also a test following a calf injury.
Adelaide confirmed a moderate calf strain for Izak Rankine a few days ago, with no further update expected this week due to their bye.
Essendon hasn’t ruled out Jye Caldwell for their trip to West Coast despite talk of a syndesmosis issue. The Dons update said he’ll face a test “after pulling up sore”.
Richmond are set to welcome back Dion Prestia, Sam Banks and Hugo Ralphsmith following injuries which might cause a selection shake-up.
Sydney small forward Malcolm Rosas will miss 1-2 weeks with an ankle sprain.
Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera is listed as “1 week” in St Kilda’s injury report.
