AVAILABILITY ISSUES
With the T20 World Cup taking centre stage, it’s been quiet on this front but Australia did announce a 13-man squad for the Test series against the West Indies (these two Tests precede the BBL which starts on December 13) which is indicative for the South Africa Tests that clash with the first half of the BBL.
It’s pleasing to see only 13 players named in the Test squad, which is good news for BBL availability, with the likes of Jhye Richardson ($149k BWL), Mitch Marsh ($246k B/B), Josh Inglis ($87k W/B), Ashton Agar ($160k B/B), Michael Neser ($107k B/B), Mitch Swepson ($107k BWL) and Mark Steketee ($177k BWL) not called up.
INJURIES
Josh Inglis ($87k W/B) returned from the hand injury that ruled him out of the T20 World Cup, playing for WA in the Marsh Cup.
Joel Paris ($96k BWL) and Jhye Richardson ($149k BWL) were rested from the WA Sheffield Shield squad, while Mac Wright ($62k BAT) missed Tasmania’s Shield game with an unspecified injury.
Matthew Gilkes ($97k W/B) and Hayden Kerr ($157k B/B) were both named in the NSW squad for their Shield game against Tasmania following broken fingers.
Tasmania captain Jordan Silk offered an update on Hurricanes quick Billy Stanlake ($68k BWL). He said: “I had a chat to him yesterday. I think he’s a week away from being off the last run. I think for Hurricanes fans they should be getting excited, he’s on the path to hopefully being available for the start of that season.”
FORM GUIDE
England and Sixers fast bowler Chris Jordan ($125k BWL) was brought in to replace the sore Mark Wood in the T20 World Cup semi-final against India and took a 3fa, equating to 97 SC BBL points, although he went for plenty of runs.
Thunder opener Alex Hales ($130k BAT) won Player of the Match in that game, blazing 86* from 47 balls, coming after scores of 47 and 52. Hales’ semi-final score equated to 121 SC BBL points.
