Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge has suggested that Marcus Bontempelli may need to be rested in coming weeks as he nurses his body through the season.
Bontempelli played with a heavily strapped right knee in Friday’s loss to Fremantle, following a hyperextension against Geelong a fortnight ago.
“It’d be nice to be able to (rest Bontempelli),” Beveridge pondered after the game.
“Quite simply with Marcus, we might need to rest him this week, I don’t know, but we won’t take any risks if we think he’s going to get sore or he’s going to re-injure something.
“I mean, he was quite outstanding for most of the game tonight, but you’re seeing him limp a bit, I saw him limp a bit as the game went on and (I) don’t like to see that.
“We’ll work through it during the week… that would be a great challenge for the rest of the group if we lose him for a week or two.”
The Dogs have had a wretched run with injury lately, losing their past four games.
However, they have a winnable Round 9 game against Port Adelaide in Adelaide on Friday night to come.
