UPDATES

Dustin Martin (AF $634k SC $492k M/F) is “probably doubtful” for Thursday’s game due to illness. Richmond coach Damien Hardwick told FoxFooty: “He’s got a bit of a lurgy at the moment. He didn’t train (on Monday), he’s not particularly well at the moment as there’s a bit of flu going around. He’s probably doubtful.”

Good news for Tom Stewart (AF $870k SC $605k DEF) owners, after his concussion prior to his bye. Geelong confirmed in an update: “Won’t miss a game after progressing through the AFL’s concussion protocols in the bye round.”

Tim Taranto (AF $784k SC $465k M/F) could return from his back injury. GWS said in an update: “Will undergo a fitness test at main training on Thursday to assess his availability for Saturday night’s match.”

Brynn Teakle (AF $190k SC $102k F/R) is looking likely to debut for Port soon after a good debut SANFL game. Port assistant coach Brett Montgomery said: “His performance was really, really good. It was shared between ruck and forward, so the temptation will be there.

“And if we do, he still will be learning. He will still be raw and it certainly will be an education on the run. That would not prevent us from picking him. But whether it is this week or not, (Teakle’s AFL debut) is coming.”

Carlton confirmed bad news for Caleb Marchbank (AF $294k SC $209k DEF) after making his return following several years out. The club update said: “Has suffered a lateral meniscus tear in his knee and has undergone surgery. Expected to be sidelined for the next 6 to 8 weeks.”

Adam Cerra (AF $673k SC $478k MID) will be sidelined too. Carlton’s update said: “Experienced a low-grade hamstring injury on Friday night. He is expected to be sidelined for the next two weeks.”

Adelaide revealed Patrick Parnell (AF $212k SC $123k DEF) should be available this round after a corked thigh. Crows High Performance Manager Darren Burgess said: “He did some running away from training on Monday and will be able to complete full training tomorrow and be available for the weekend.”

Josh Rachele (AF $413k SC $232k M/F) looks set to return from a similar problem. Burgess said: “Josh has been steadily increasing his running capacity to the point where he trained fully on Monday and we expect him to train and be available (this weekend).”

North Melbourne confirmed they had accepted the two-game ban offered to Jason Horne-Francis (AF $503k SC $311k M/F), meaning he’ll be out until Round 17 with their upcoming bye.

Mid-season Draft top pick Jai Culley (AF $190k SC $102k M/F) made his debut in the WAFL on the weekend. West Coast coach Adam Simpson said: “He’s never played against men. He’s 19. We’ve got to be patient. He looks like he’s ready for men’s football physically but getting up to speed and getting to know his teammates and the way we play, he needs a little bit of time.”

Simpson also spoke about 2021 AFL Draft pick 37 Rhett Bazzo (AF $218k SC $117k D/F) who impressed in the WAFL on the weekend. He said: “He’s not far off. We’ll work through that this week and see what the team looks like, the conditions, the opposition. He’ll play football this year.”
