Port Adelaide v Essendon

Port coach Ken Hinkley said Karl Amon (AF $719k SC $486k MID) was “fine” after an injury scare on the final siren, while he revealed Orazio Fantasia (AF $541k SC $335k FWD) would undergo scans after a quad complaint in the SANFL on Saturday.

On young ruck Sam Hayes (AF $408k SC $308k RUCK), Hinkley said: “He’s played 6-7 games now, thrown into it and hasn’t had any support. He’s grown in his game every opportunity he gets.”

Essendon coach Ben Rutten praised Darcy Parish (AF $908k SC $625k MID) who had another strong game. He said: “He seems to love those wet and slippery conditions. He’s able to soak up ground balls really well. The conditions suit him, he’s been a really strong contributor for us.”

Collingwood v Carlton

Jacob Weitering (AF $514k SC $435k DEF) was subbed out with a shoulder issue. Carlton coach Michael Voss said: “We think it will be more on the major end than on the minor end. He will go see a surgeon early this week and decide whether he has surgery. If it ventures into that space we are probably talking more a longer term five, six weeks.”

St Kilda v North Melbourne

Neither side used their sub. Saints second-gamer Mitch Owens (AF $223k SC $117k MID) won praise from coach Brett Ratten, who said: “He was (pretty impressive). Jones, Crouch and Owens had 29 tackles between them. Sometimes you can’t always win the ball, but it’s the work you do away from the ball.”

Ratten clarified Rowan Marshall (AF $671k SC $458k RUCK) “was fine” after a shoulder knock too.

Gold Coast v Hawthorn

Gold Coast coach Stuart Dew praised Joel Jeffrey (AF $242k SC $127k FWD) and Malcolm Rosas (AF $328k SC $205k FWD), who both hail from the NT where their game was played. He said: “Joel did some special stuff. Mally was really lively. I’ll reluctant to single too many individuals out but love talking about the locals.”

The Hawks subbed out Jack Scrimshaw (AF $595k SC $443k DEF) due to concussion.

West Coast v Western Bulldogs

West Coast subbed out Jeremy McGovern (AF $641k SC 494k DEF) due to a nerve-related back injury, while Luke Shuey (AF $69k SC $455k MID) copped a hit to his ribs but played on.

Tim English (AF $837k SC $572k F/R) earned praise from coach Luke Beveridge on his return from injury and illness. He said: “He had a tremendous return. He played really well tonight. Very influential.

“He’s a great example of a ruckman that plays the game extremely well outside of the stoppage, he’s a very good turnover ruckman, he doesn’t just get behind the ball, he’ll link up in chains. It’s one thing we’ve made sure we don’t coach out of Tim’s game. It’s Tim playing to his strengths. It’s paying dividends.”

Melbourne v Fremantle

The Dees lost Steven May (AF$580k SC $475k DEF) to concussion early, while coach Simon Goodwin revealed Christian Petracca (AF $901k SC $585k MID) was unwell in the lead-up to the game, hence his poor performance.

Goodwin said: “Trac woke up this morning a bit crook. that was another concern heading into the game. To Trac’s level, he wasn’t at his best today. Hopefully he’ll get through that alright over the next 24 hours.”

Fremantle subbed out Matt Taberner (AF $505k SC $348k FWD) due to a back spasm, while coach Justin Longmuir said he’d weigh up Nat Fyfe‘s (AF $709k SC $546k MID) return early in the week.

Brisbane Lions v GWS Giants

Callan Ward (AF $662k SC $443k MID) was subbed out early due to a head knock.

Geelong v Adelaide

Geelong coach Chris Scott praised defender Tom Stewart (AF $851k SC $592k DEF) after a dominant display. Scott said: “I’m biased but I think he’s the best defender in the game. (He) was just sensational today. If we didn’t have him behind the ball when they were winning the stoppages it would’ve been really difficult for us.”

Scott also hailed youngster Sam De Koning (AF $363k SC $334k D/F). He said: “I’m trying to keep the lid on it a little bit. A couple of weeks ago I thought he had a great contest (against Max King). I likened it to Glen Jakovich and Wayne Carey, that might be a little bit of an exaggeration as they’re two of the greats but I think Sam has the potential to be one of those guys that people go to the footy to see.”

Adelaide lost Jordon Butts (AF $308k SC $272k DEF) to concussion.

Sydney v Richmond

No injuries for either side. Nick Blakey (AF $645k SC $472k DEF) and Marlion Pickett (AF $498k SC $357k MID) were both late withdrawals due to illness.
