Sam Hayes (AF $403k SC $304k RUCK) has held his spot in the Port Adelaide side, having originally bene named on an extended bench sparking fears he’d be dropped in a wet game.
DEBUTANT ALERT
Shannon Neale (AF $190k SC $123k FWD) has been added to the Geelong side to make his debut, replacing the injured Gary Rohan. Neale went pick 33 in the 2020 AFL Draft and is a 203cm ruck who kicked five goals in the VFL last weekend.
UPDATES
Hugh McCluggage (AF $815k SC $573k MID) is expected to be available next week having been ruled out this round with a hamstring issue.
Lions coach Chris Fagan said: “He was really close to playing. The scan shows marginal damage. We’ve just got to get him right. Giving him a week off is probably wise.”
Callum Jamieson (AF $273k SC $187k RUCK) looms as a downgrade option in the ruck division and West Coast coach Adam Simpson spoke positively about him. He said: “Jamo has played 3-4 games, he’s 20-21-years-old. You normally peak in your mid-20s as a ruck. They’re (Jamieson and Bailey Williams) learning a lot on the run. I don’t think they’re not ready.”
Reilly O’Brien (AF $706k SC $518k RUCK) has returned for Adelaide with coach Matthew Nicks explaining his recall after two games in the SANFL. He said: “Sometimes a nice reset can help a player, he went back and was flawless during the week. He put a performance out at SANFL level. I’m sure we’ll see him perform tomorrow.”
Matt Crouch (AF $684k SC $480k MID) has also been recalled. Nicks said: “Matt is an experienced player who’s been out for 12 months. We felt he needed to go back and get a number of games under his belt. He played a number of blue chip games. He’s only going to add to that.”
Essendon coach Ben Rutten talked about the return from injury for Jake Stringer (AF $592k SC $433k M/F). Rutten said: “He’s looking good. He’s building, not yet doing everything with the main group. Next week he’ll start to integrate into the group.”
