Jack Steven (AF $664k SC $409k MID/FWD) appeared set to return for the Cats but hasn’t made the final cut.
Geelong coach Chris Scott said: “Jack got a knock to his jaw a couple of weeks ago. We think he’ll be right to play this week. We haven’t absolutely ascertained that but we’re pretty confident he’ll play.”
Zach Tuohy (AF $563k SC $374k DEF) does return after being a late withdrawal, while Joel Selwood (AF $501k SC $375k MID) will miss for the fourth straight match although he’s shaping up for Round 18.
Scott said: “We’re going to be a little more conservative again. He’s in good shape. He’s right this week but we’re going to put the extra week in the bank and bring him back for Round 18.”
The Cats coach also confirmed that Nakia Cockatoo’s (AF $255k SC $148k FWD) season is over with a wrist issue, along with the impending birth of he and his partner’s first child.
Richmond confirmed on Wednesday that Kane Lambert (AF $545k SC $411k MID) and Dylan Grimes (AF $415k SC $336k DEF) would return from injury, with newcomer Thomson Dow (AF $233k SC $125k MID) dropping out among others.
GIANT NEWS
Josh Kelly (AF $779k SC $587k MID) has been cleared to play in Round 17 against Melbourne after a concussion suffered two games ago.
GWS Head of Medical Cullan Ball said: “Josh has progressed through the concussion protocols and is cleared from our perspective so he’ll be available to play as well.”
In further good news from GWS, Zac Williams (AF $587k SC $457k DEF) appears to be good to go after being managed with an Achilles issue.
Ball said: “Zac was a bit sore leading into the Adelaide game but he’s recovered well now and we expect him to be available for the Melbourne game.”
Once-well owned defender Aidan Corr (AF $393k SC $289k DEF) will miss after rolling his ankle.
Ball said: “He sprained his ankle. He’s still pretty sore so he’s unlikely to play on Saturday and after that we’ll take him day by day and see how quickly he progresses.”
OTHERS
Joe Daniher (AF $459k SC $280k FWD) has been given the green light to return after being managed against Geelong.
Essendon coach John Worsfold said: “Joe will be playing this week. If he pulls up from that well & his form is good enough, he’ll play the following week.”
Early season pick Ben Davis (AF $182k SC $123k FWD) looks like he’s done for 2020 with a foot issue.
Adelaide Head of Science & Medicine Steve Saunders said: “Ben is going well, we’ve started running with him… Based on his current level of progress, we don’t think Ben will be able to play for the remainder of the year.”
The Crows confirmed Daniel Talia (AF $312k SC $306k DEF) will miss in Round 17, which could open the door for youngsters Fischer McAsey (AF $241k SC $192k DEF) or Jordon Butts (AF $189k SC $123k DEF).
TOMORROW
We’ve got a huge Friday with David Teague (Sam Docherty rumours) and Rhyce Shaw (Jy Simpkin update) to speak to the media, along with coaches Ken Hinkley, Alastair Clarkson, Luke Beveridge, John Longmire and Matthew Nicks. We’ll also get the six teams for Saturday’s three games at 6:20pm AEST.
