Cripps listed as ‘test’, Luke Ryan named to play, rookie Dow holds spot

Luke Ryan has been named for Fremantle despite his “bruised hip”, Patrick Cripps has been listed as a ‘test’ for Carlton with a knee worry and Mitch Georgiades is in the mix to return for Port.
TEAM NEWS
Ins: N.Broad, J.Higgins, M.Frederick, J.Hogan, B.Acres
Outs: D.Grimes (hamstring), K.Lambert (hip), L.Henry (omitted), B.Bewley (injured), C.Blakely (omitted)
The main selection news which was relevant for an AFL Fantasy and SuperCoach audience was that Freo defender Luke Ryan (AF $664k SC $607k DEF) was named in the Dockers’ final 22.
There’s still some doubt around Ryan who picked up a bruised hip last round and coach Justin Longmuir wasn’t fully convincing in declaring he’d definitely play.
Longmuir said: “He’s had treatment daily and he’s heading in the right direction. He’s got a bit to do to prove himself but he’s going well.”
Kane Lambert (AF $545k SC $411k MID) is out for Richmond with a hip issue although it appears to be minor, but it ensures Thomson Dow (AF $237k SC $117k MID) gets a second game.
Richmond coach Damien Hardwick said: “Kane Lambert’s pulled up a little bit sore as well. He’s got a bit of a hip complaint so we’ll take the conservative option and give him a spell this week.”
CRIPPS CONCERN
Well-owned Carlton mid Patrick Cripps (AF $699k SC $532k MID) is no certainty to play in Thursday’s clash with GWS.
Cripps is battling a knee issue which reared its head against Collingwood on Sunday and has been listed as a ‘test’ for the game.
Carlton High Performance Director Andrew Russell said: “He has got no structural damage which is great. He’s a test to play and we’ll see how he comes up later in the week.”
OTHERS
Mitch Georgiades (AF $363k SC $248k FWD) is the only player left on Port’s injury list, with a hamstring worry listed as a ‘test’.
The Port website said: “Mitch Georgiades, who sat out the weekend’s game with a minor hamstring injury, is expected to be available for selection but will need to prove his fitness at training during the week.”
Nakia Cockatoo (AF $255k SC $148k FWD) may not get a run in 2020, with Geelong coach Chris Scott cool on committing to him playing, particularly with his partner heavily pregnant.
Scott said: “We’ll have more on Nakia at some stage but he played pretty well in that (reserves) game. He’s had such a difficult time over the last few years so re-introducing him prematurely would be a mistake.”
Popular early season pick Laitham Vandermeer (AF $370k SC $232k MID/FWD) will miss the next six weeks with his hamstring injury.
Bulldogs medical services manager Chris Bell said: “In a contest, Laitham got a push that caused him to over-stretch his hamstring. This has caused a moderate grade injury and he’ll miss the next six weeks of footy.”
Dogs rookie Callum Porter (AF $178k SC $123k MID) is expected to be available for selection next week after a groin problem.
TOMORROW
Nathan Buckley, Simon Goodwin, David Teague and Leon Cameron will speak to the media, with the teams for Sydney-Melbourne and GWS-Carlton to be named at 6:20pm AEST, while Richmond will play Fremantle from 7:10pm AEST.
