Well-owned ruckman Sam Draper (AF $334k SC $271k RUCK) returns for Essendon after being managed, while Dyson Heppell (AF $687k SC $514k MID) has been added after long-term injury.
Will Day (AF $482k SC $315k DEF) has been managed out by Hawthorn who again haven’t named any debutants. In fact, there’s no debutants across all four 22s.
Adelaide rookie Jordon Butts (AF $189k SC $123k DEF) was picked up by a few coaches but he’s only lasted one game with a ribs issue.
Crows coach Matthew Nicks said: “Butts is not going to play. That’s from injury unfortunately after his debut. He’s a little bit sore. We’re hoping he improves dramatically & gets another look before the end of the season.”
Plenty of coaches were stressing about a potential rest for Nic Naitanui (AF $611k SC $618k RUCK) but he has been named in West Coast’s 22.
Eagles coach Adam Simpson: “His recovery and the way he has prepared, he was right to go on the four-day break. At the moment, his numbers and the way he is presenting, they say he is OK. Hurn’s the same.”
In saying that, it’s worth noting back-up ruckman Tom Hickey (AF $448k SC $380k RUCK) is among West Coast’s emergencies, which isn’t the norm.
West Coast have dropped newcomers Jarrod Brander (AF $421K SC $266K DEF/FWD) and Nic Reid (AF $206k SC $137k FWD), while Xavier O’Neill (AF $233k SC $150k MID) and Bailey Williams (AF $183k SC $123k DEF/RUCK) have held their spots.
Luke Ryan (AF $664k SC $607k DEF) may miss Fremantle’s clash with Richmond on Wednesday after picking up a hip injury in Saturday’s loss to GWS.
Dockers Footy GM Peter Bell said: “Luke’s a little bit sore and the long-haul flight probably didn’t help, but he’s improving with every hour.
“He’s been really diligent with his recovery and we’re hopeful that he’ll be fine for Wednesday night.”
Josh Kelly (AF $779k SC $587k MID) will miss GWS’s next match against Carlton on Thursday with concussion.
GWS coach Leon Cameron told SEN: “He’s still a bit knocked around. We had to actually take him to the dentist last night.
“Clearly he’s not playing this weekend because it’s a five-day break. Our next game after that is 10 days’ time, we think he’ll be right for that.”
Daniel Rich (AF $521k SC $392k DEF) has declared he’s fit to play against Collingwood after a hamstring injury.
Rich said: “I’m all good (with my injury). I’m looking forward to getting back out there.”
Port assistant coach Michael Voss said Dan Houston (AF $579k SC $437k DEF/MID) has done everything right since his COVID-19 protocol breach suspension, which has now elapsed.
Voss said: “Houston and Ladhams have put their best foot forward in their response to their punishment… We will discuss Dan at selection.”
Richmond and Fremantle coaches Damien Hardwick and Justin Longmuir will speak to the media ahead of their Wednesday clash, before they’ll name their 22s on Tuesday evening. That will happen after the bouncedown for the first game on Tuesday between Hawthorn-Adelaide.
