Port Adelaide superstar Zak Butters’ season could be over after suffering a nasty looking ankle injury in Saturday’s loss to St Kilda.
Butters exited the game late in the third quarter after an attempted spoil on Max Hall, who fell on him.
That left Butters with an awkward twist on his right ankle sparking fears of a major injury as medical staff assisted him from the field.
“It’s not looking good,” Port coach Josh Carr said. “Obviously ankle, to what extent, syndesmosis, who knows.
“The vision speaks for itself, so we’ll have to wait and see.
He added: “We had a bit going on through the game.
“Zak had a great third quarter and you see the way that he plays – he never gives up.
“He probably didn’t need to get himself in that situation, but that’s just who he is.”
Port, who are already without Connor Rozee for the season, are due to host Fremantle next Saturday.
