Gold Coast coach Damien Hardwick revealed they “parked” Christian Petracca after experiencing hamstring awareness but would need to wait on scans to learn the severity.
Petracca, who has been in scintillating form in the opening few rounds, exited Saturday’s game with Richmond in the third quarter and was seen icing up his right hamstring.
The incident occurred as Petracca raced clear of a pack and went to kick the ball under pressure from James Tresize. Petracca was seen headed down the race to the changerooms before sitting out the rest of the game on the bench.
Hardwick told reporters: “He just got pushed as he kicked. He had a little bit of hamstring awareness, so we just parked him really.
“He’s obviously an important player for us. We’ve got a bye next week. We’ll just work through the process of getting him scanned and then once we have more information we’ll give it to you guys.”
When asked on first impressions on the injury, Hardwick added: “We’re always hopeful.
“From our point of view, we’ll wait til our doctors can assess it and figure out what the correct decision will be.”
The Suns have a Round 3 bye before taking on Petracca’s former side Melbourne away from home in Round 4.
