Stay up to date throughout the round with our rolling injury report from the coaches post-game. With the nine-game round extending from Thursday night through until Sunday, these snippets of info will be key.

West Coast v St Kilda

The Eagles didn’t use their sub, but Luke Shuey (AF $673k SC $432k MID) copped a few heavy hits and looked banged up.

Second-gamer Jai Culley (AF $289k SC $102k M/F) impressed Eagles coach Adam Simpson who said: “He’s not shirking the issues. He’s playing to his strengths. Hopefully there’s many games in front of him. He’s a good size at 194. He likes the contest which is where we need to be at the moment.”

The Saints lost Jack Billings (AF $704k SC $440k MID) early to a back issue. Jade Gresham (AF $673k SC $427k M/F) was iced late with a knee problem. On Gresham, Saints coach Brett Ratten said: “He just copped a knock on the knee. He’s hurt that knee before. We’ll have to take a look at that, we think he’ll be right but we just didn’t take that risk at the end.”

Collingwood v Essendon

Brayden Maynard (AF $641k SC $495k DEF) was subbed out with a shoulder injury for the Pies. Collingwood coach Craig McRae said: “I’ve shied away from making doctor’s calls on this. He’s had some shoulder issues in the past. Without knowing the full medical report on it, it seems like it’s agitated a previous injury. I’ve seen him after the game and he said ‘I’ll be right’. Time will tell.”

McRae indicated Jordan De Goey (AF $617k SC $416k M/F) will return next week, while he suggested Brodie Grundy (AF $802k SC $544k RUC) will come back via the VFL. He said: “Brodie will make us better… we’re not going to throw him in the deep end. He hasn’t played for 15 weeks, we want to set him up to the best player he can be.”

Mason Redman (AF $791k SC $565k DEF) was subbed out at half-time following a heavy collision. Dons coach Ben Rutten said: “He’s ok, I think. He got a bit of a body blow. Coughed up some blood, he’s in hospital now for some preliminary check to make sure there’s nothing there.”

Ben Hobbs (AF $492k SC $321k M/F) laboured with a shoulder problem too. Rutten said: “I think he got a knock during the game and battled a bit but he’s ok. He’s a pretty tough boy.”

Carlton v GWS Giants

The Blues had a few injury concerns during the game with Sam Walsh (AF $838k SC $583k MID) having an injury worry, while Jacob Weitering (AF $432k SC $345k DEF) copped a cork. Both played on but Blues coach Michael Voss said: “I’m not here to announce necessarily what he (Walsh) has done but we’re hoping it’s not too bad and that he’ll be OK, both boys.”

Voss also replied “possibly” when asked if George Hewett (AF $766k SC $536k D/M) would return next round from back soreness.

GWS didn’t use their sub. GWS caretaker coach Mark McVeigh offered an update on Lachie Whitfield (AF $753k SC $462k D/M) who was out with a hip flexor issue and Josh Kelly (AF $822k SC $550k MID) who missed the game with concussion. He said: “Particularly, Whitfield needs to pass a few things. Kelly will come out of concussion protocols.”

Western Bulldogs v Melbourne

Adam Treloar (AF $786k SC $499k M/F) was subbed out with a calf issue. Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge said: “We’ll wait and see. He’s had one or two things here and there. He has had a bit of a calf situation going on.

“He came off troubled by it. (Physio) Chris Bell was able to free him up. He went back on and then came off again even more troubled by it. We’ll wait and see, I’m not sure if there’s a scan coming. He couldn’t go. There’s something going on there. He had to come out of the game.”

Beveridge said Caleb Daniel (AF $717k SC $490k DEF) was a good chance from a knee injury next round. He said: “He might be available. It’s either this week or the next. We won’t be rushing him. He has been able to put some training sessions together.”

James Jordon (AF $680k SC $429k MID) copped a left knee knock early and came off, but Demons coach Simon Goodwin said he was fine but would be assessed during the week.

Brisbane Lions v Gold Coast

Daniel Rich (AF $735k SC $538k DEF) was subbed out with concussion. Lions coach Chris Fagan said: “He’s OK. Obviously knocked out. I think he’ll be OK.”

Fagan was hopeful that Keidean Coleman (AF $657k SC $468k D/F) will be available next round. He said: “I think so. As long as there’s no mishaps this week. He potentially could’ve played tonight. We felt like with the fact he was sore, it’s a very minor injury, we decided not to play him. Hopefully we will have him back this week but if we still don’t think that’s right, we’ll leave him out again.”

Gold Coast subbed out Charlie Ballard (AF $482k SC $326k DEF) at three-quarter time after a knee issue, with coach Stuart Dew hinting it was a medial issue, likely sidelining him.

Port Adelaide v Geelong

Dan Houston (AF $690k SC $503k D/M) was subbed out at three quarter-time for Port due to concussion, while Mitch Georgiades (AF $470k SC $306k FWD) and Charlie Dixon (AF $580k SC $491k FWD) both had ankle knocks but coach Ken Hinkley was confident they would be fine to play next week.

Geelong subbed out ruckman Rhys Stanley (AF $546k SC $386k RUC) with a knee injury which coach Chris Scott said will sideline him for a few weeks, flagging Jonathon Ceglar (AF $641k SC $491k RUC) and Esava Ratugolea (AF $349k SC $277k F/R) as possible replacements.

Sydney v Adelaide

Sydney didn’t use their sub, but ruckman Tom Hickey (AF $530k SC $442k RUC) copped a few niggles to his ankle and foot. Shane McAdam (AF $495k SC $315k FWD) was subbed out for the Crows with a corked thigh.

Crows coach Matthew Nicks praised Rory Laird (AF $1.03m SC $676k MID) and Sam Berry (AF $678k SC $436k M/F). On Laird, he said: “He’s been outstanding right throughout the year. He’s an accumulator. He does work in around stoppage that sets us up. He loves the contest.”

On Berry, Nicks said: “He’s got his game to the level. He’s backing himself in. he’s building his confidence. He’s an explosive midfielder. He’s an explosive footballer. Hopefully he continues to get better and better.”

Nicks revealed that Matt Crouch (AF $711k SC $439k MID) had suffered an injury setback. He said: “We hope not (season over). He came off Wednesday’s session with a sore quad. He’ll have a scan on Monday. It looks like there might be something small there in the quad which is disappointing.”

North Melbourne v Hawthorn

Neither side used their sub. Nick Larkey (AF $375k SC $281k FWD) was a late out with a heel problem but North caretaker coach Leigh Adams was confident he’d be OK to play next week.

Richmond v Fremantle

Ben Miller (AF $536k SC $408k FWD) was subbed out for Richmond, with coach Damien Hardwick claiming he was cramping badly. Hardwick also hinted Tom Lynch (AF $536K SC $408k FWD) was likely for next week.

Fremantle subbed out Nathan Fyfe (AF $585k SC $454k MID) with a hamstring injury. Freo coach Justin Longmuir told SEN: “I think it will be a standard hammy, that was the call from the doctors after the game. You never really know with these things, so we’ll get him back and get it scanned and let everyone know.”
