George Hewett (AF $766k SC $536k D/M) is a shock absentee. Carlton said in an update: “Hewett reported back soreness on Thursday, so was withdrawn from the side for this weekend’s game.”

Keidean Coleman (AF $657k SC $468k D/F) is also out for Brisbane although the club simply said “injured”, it has been reported he hurt his hamstring late in their last game.

Aaron Hall (AF $703k SC $495k DEF) has been named as an emergency for North after a quad issue, while Jordan Dawson (AF $849k SC $602k D/M) is in Adelaide’s 22 despite missing training due to illness.

Tom Green (AF $647k SC $442k MID) has been managed at GWS, while Braydon Preuss (AF $657k SC $444k RUC) returns with Matt Flynn (AF $561k SC $434k RUC) dropping out.

Popular Round 19 trade-in target Rowan Marshall (AF $737k SC $460k F/R) missed St Kilda training on Thursday. Saints coach Brett Ratten said: “He’s just a little bit crook, no Covid. He’s tested four times and been negative. He was just a bit crook and has had a bit of a workload over the last few weeks so we just looked after him.”

With Paddy Ryder out, Ratten added on their ruck set-up: “We’re just going to have a look and decide whether we have the two rucks or just one ruck. Big Ro will do most of the work, we’ve got Tom Campbell in good form, but we could experiment as well.”

Brodie Grundy (AF $802k SC $544k RUCK) has not been named for Collingwood. Pies coach Craig McRaet old SEN: “He’s available to play. We just don’t think he’s quite physically ready to play AFL footy. He’s missed 14, 15 weeks. That’s a long time out.” This is likely to positively impact Darcy Cameron’s (AF $780k SC $515k F/R) role.

In that Eagles-Saints game, West Coast coach Adam Simpson clarified Callum Jamieson (AF $307k SC $210k RUC) may be available after being subbed out with an adductor issue. Simpson said: “He is (a chance). He’s just had a big year, as happens with young key position players. He’s a little bit sore.”

The Eagles coach also spoke glowingly about Jai Culley (AF $224k SC $102k M/F) after his debut last round. He said: “There’s plenty of upside there. Tackles and clearances seem to be his go… If he continues to do that, he’ll hold his spot, for sure.”

Darcy Parish (AF $824k SC $586k MID) is targeting a return in Round 21 or possibly later. Esssendon Head of High Performance Sean Murphy: β€œ(Darcy’s) up and running now. He’s getting that strength into that calf and getting volume in those legs which is great, but all things going smoothly, we’ll see him in the next three to four weeks.”

Ben Hobbs (AF $499k SC $321k M/F) looks likely to play this round after a shoulder worry. Murphy said: “He’s pulled up pretty well. He’s got to get through main training during the week to see how he gets up for the weekend but all things are looking pretty promising and he should be right to go.”
