On Taranto, GWS caretaker coach Mark McVeigh said: “Tim was battling with a back injury for a while there and played in the VFL. He was scheduled to play two quarters but played three and felt really good. He trained really well this week so he’s an automatic selection.”

Matt Crouch (AF $697k SC $429k MID) has been left out of Adelaide’s final 22. Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks said: “Matty is going to go back to the SANFL… Gold Coast really did put us to the sword a little bit on the outside so we are going to make a change and Harry Schoenberg will come in.”

Isaac Chugg (AF $190k SC $123k DEF) will play for Collingwood on Sunday. He was pick 28 in the 2020 Rookie Draft and is averaging 9.8 disposals and 3.1 tackles per game in the VFL this season.

Jack Crisp (AF $864 SC $541k D/M) didn’t train for Collingwood on Friday but Pies coach Craig McRae assured that he’ll play this round. He said: “Yep (he’ll play). Unfortunately he’s got some personal stuff that came up in the last 24 hours, it’s unfortunate he’s not here (at training) but he’ll be here tomorrow.”

Port coach Ken Hinkley offered an update on the knee injury to Zak Butters (AF $614k SC $471k M/F). He said: “We’ve got some optimism around how long that may be, without putting a timeframe on it saying he’ll definitely be next week or the week after… We’re reasonably optimistic that it shouldn’t be too long.”

Ruckman Sam Hayes (AF $408k SC $308k RUCK) was left out again. Hinkley explained: “Sam is a really good young ruckman who is clear and has a lot of clarity on what he needs to work on. Until he can get to the level we need them at, he’ll continue to develop as a young ruck.”

Dylan Stephens (AF $518k SC $202k MID) has come into the Sydney 22 with Justin McInerney and Harry Cunningham out due to health and safety protocols. Will Gould (AF $190k SC $123k DEF) is elevated to an emergency.

Carlton coach Michael Voss confirmed that Brodie Kemp (AF $281k SC $156k DEF) will play their vacant key defender role. Voss said: “Kempy will come in and play that role as we’ve seen him play against GWS. He’s been able to come and do that pretty well.”
