Fremantle v Brisbane Lions

Fremantle didn’t use their sub, while coach Justin Longmuir declined to declare Nat Fyfe (AF $709k SC $546k MID) will play next round despite getting through 90 minutes in the WAFL on Saturday. He said: “I’ll just worry about Brisbane, before I worry about selection next week.”

Brisbane subbed out Darcy Gardiner (AF $397k SC $305k DEF) due to a rib injury, while Dayne Zorko (AF $748k SC $464k M/D) went off in the second quarter, which coach Chris Fagan explained: “He just had to get some stitches in a wound.”

Fagan also said Joe Daniher (AF $573k SC $400k FWD) will return from injury next week in the seniors.

Hawthorn v Collingwood

Jack Gunston (AF $429k SC $339k FWD) limped around but played on. Collingwood subbed out Reef McInnes (AF $267k SC $174k MID) due to a dislocated shoulder.

Pies coach Craig McRae said: “Reef unfortunately looks like he’s dislocated his shoulder. We’ll get scans to see what that means.” He also confirmed Jamie Elliott (AF $597k SC $409k FWD) was sick yesterday, meaning he was a late out.

McRae praised Nick Daicos (AF $603k SC $373k D/M) who was outstanding. He said: “Nick is an exciting talent. He had 36 disposals in the wet. It’s what he does with it too. He sees the game really clearly. We’ve been talking about giving him a rest, it makes it hard to rest him when he plays like that.”

Melbourne v Sydney

Max Gawn (AF $841k SC $552k RUCK) had an outstanding game for Melbourne and Dees coach Simon Goodwin said: “He was outstanding. He’s the captain of our footy club for a reason. He stands up when we need him. He couldn’t do anything more from his end.”

Colin O’Riordan (AF $296k SC $199k DEF) was subbed off early due to concussion.

Gold Coast v North Melbourne

The Suns subbed out Lachie Weller (AF $598k SC $387k M/F) to a nasty looking knee injury. Suns coach Stuart Dew said: “Yeah, that’s (ACL) what the fear is and what it looked like… It doesn’t look good. We’re going to miss him.”

Matt Rowell (AF $547k SC $391k MID) was excellent and won praise from Dew who said: “His in-and-under work, contested and ability to get some inside to out was first class. He’s almost a second-year player in terms of games played. He’ll constantly evolve.”

Dew also praised Touk Miller (AF $879k SC $578k MID) after his 150th game. He said: “Just an outstanding servant of our footy club. His best is yet to come. He’s a big part of why the club is the way it is, and why the players are connected. Rapt for him.”

Jason Horne-Francis (AF $517k SC $316k M/F) had a fourth-quarter leg issue and Ben McKay (AF $356k SC $331k DEF) was subbed off after copping a heavy bump.

On Horne-Francis, North coach David Noble said: “He got a bit sore, corkie, and we were out of rotations at the end. I haven’t had an update but certainly there were no concerns on the bench.”

Adelaide v West Coast

The Crows subbed out debutant Patrick Parnell (AF $190k SC $123k DEF) after a corked quad. Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks said: “He’s got a really bad corkie… I thought early he was great. It’s a really positive one for us going forward… He probably won’t be right next week either, I wouldn’t have thought.”

The Eagles subbed out Isiah Winder (AF $278k SC $169k M/F) with a knee issue and Jeremy McGovern (AF $601k SC $462k DEF) was a late out due to a back concern but coach Adam Simpson said he’d likely be available after their bye next week.

Western Bulldogs v Geelong

Bailey Smith (AF $903k SC $552k M/F) was offered a two-game ban for the AFL’s match review officer after being charged with headbutting Zach Tuohy.

Dogs coach Luke Beveridge revealed Marcus Bontempelli (AF $806k SC $589k M/F) has been playing with an issue. He said: “Marcus has had a minor shoulder-AC thing going on, which the players put up with here and there.” The Dogs have the bye next week.

Geelong lost Tom Stewart (AF $892k SC $618k DEF) to concussion although coach Chris Scott clarified they weren’t concerned about a jaw injury. He said: “No (jaw) concern. He’s adamant that he’s fine. He was making sense to me… Besides for the way the vision looked, he’s pretty much symptom free.”
