UPDATES

Tim English (AF $837k SC $572k R/F) appears very unlikely to be available for Round 10 as he continues to battle illness. Western Bulldogs Head of Sports Medicine Chris Bell outlined the situation.

Bell said: “Tim didn’t play on the weekend because he has had a bad dose of the flu. He became significantly unwell and had to spend a few days in hospital last week.

“As expected, he is still very low in energy, which will take time to return to full levels. He is now back at the club and easing himself back into some training.”

Jy Simpkin (AF $738k SC $473k MID) looks set to return for North Melbourne after being a late out in Round 9 due to a hamstring issue after illness.

Simpkins said: “I’ll be back this week. Throughout the week I was quite crook and spent a couple of days in bed. Then I got down to Tasmania and captain’s run and it just tightened up for a couple of days.”

Carlton confirmed that Zac Williams (AF $609k SC $410k DEF) had avoided an Achilles injury but instead he has suffered a relatively long-term calf problem.

The Blues update said: “He underwent scans on Monday afternoon which confirmed a high-grade calf strain, that will sideline Williams for the next 10-12 weeks.”

Forgotten Adelaide defender Wayne Milera (AF $382k SC $271k DEF) offered an update on his bid to return to the AFL side. He said: “I’m building some form in the SANFL. I’ve been out of the game for a long time – two years.

“As anyone would know being in rehab with long term injuries is pretty tough and you spend a lot of the time doing sessions by yourself. It’s been awesome just being back playing footy.”
