UPDATES

GWS coach Leon Cameron has flagged Lachie Whitfield (AF $771k SC $433k D/M) for a new role, having played forward at times over the past fortnight.

Cameron said: “He played there (forward) against St Kilda as well. Last week he hit the scoreboard. We know his running ability and ability to play two-way footy, his defence was superb. We made the shift a few weeks ago, we were really pleased with that. Equally when he goes up to the wing, he offers up that option as well. No doubt, he’ll be spending time in both positions this weekend.”

The Giants also revealed Jake Stein (AF $255k SC $213k DEF) missed last week due to health and safety protocols but is available again.

Josh Ward (AF $406k SC $236k MID) looks set to return after being managed last week. Hawks coach Sam Mitchell said: “We’ve seen across the comp some of the first-year players play 6-7 games in a row and they start to taper off, giving them a week & then getting them back seems to work quite well.”

The Western Bulldogs provided an update on Tim English’s (AF $837k SC $572k R/F) hamstring injury. Dogs Head of Sports Medicine Chris Bell said: “Tim and Alex (Keath) are progressing well. They still have to tick some boxes this week before we confirm if they play this weekend against Port or next weekend against the Pies.”

Geelong coach Chris Scott confirmed Patrick Dangerfield (AF $686k SC $483k MID) will return after missing two games with a corked calf. Scott said: “He’s going well. He’ll play. We think he’s ready to play whatever role we choose.”

Wil Powell (AF $518k SC $414k DEF) is available for Gold Coast after a hamstring injury. Suns Head Physiotherapist Lindsay Bull said: “Wil has been diligent in his approach throughout the rehab process & he’ll aim to train fully at the main session and providing he does that, he’ll be available for selection.”

Sean Darcy (AF $669k SC $568k RUCK) will return from concussion too. Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir said: “Yeah he’s fine, he’s ready to go. Got through training well last night. He’s in really good spirits and back to 100 per cent.”

DEBUTANT ALERT

Longmuir also confirmed that Jye Amiss (AF $276k SC $175k FWD) will debut on Friday against North Melbourne. Amiss went pick eight in the 2021 AFL Draft and has kicked eight goals in the past two WAFL games for Peel. He’s a 196cm key forward who comes in with Matt Taberner and Rory Lobb out.
