McCartin job security boost, Blakey praise, McInerney tests, De Goey offered one-game ban

Sydney coach John Longmire offered updates on Nick Blakey, Justin McInerney and Patrick McCartin, while Jordan De Goey was offered a suspension and Rory Sloane is pushing to return.

Nick Blakey (AF $584k SC $361k DEF) is attracting plenty of fantasy interest and earned praise from Sydney coach John Longmire.

He said: “He’s playing both sides of the ball really well, he’s been strong defensively. He’s been able to do that and been able to give us some bounce, and run and carry. We’ve been pleased with his consistency so far.”

Justin McInerney (AF $565k SC $411k D/M) looks set to be in the mix to return after a knee injury sustained in Round 1. Longmire said: “He had a run today, felt fine. Hopefully he’ll be able to train tomorrow and Thursday and pull up well. If that’s the case, we expect him to come back in. He’s an important player for us.”

Longmire also offered job security to Patrick McCartin (AF $350k SC $210k D/F) who is settling back into AFL ranks. He said: “We’ve been pleased with how he’s coming along. We’d like to get him some continuous footy if we could. We’re confident his body will hold up.”

Port released their weekly injury update with good news for Sam Skinner (AF $208k SC $123k D/F) after being subbed off with an ankle issue. The update said: “Defender Sam Skinner has been cleared of any serious injury after spraining his ankle and being subbed out for the last quarter of Showdown LI. The 24-year-old is expected to be available for Thursday night’s clash with Melbourne.”

Adelaide put out their weekly injury update with Rory Sloane (AF $715k SC $528k MID) pushing to return after an adductor injury which may impact their midfield mix for someone like Matt Crouch (AF $696k SC $492k MID).

Adelaide High Performance Manager Darren Burgess said: “We expect him to train fully on Wednesday and if he gets through that then he will play on the weekend.”

Jordan De Goey (AF $737k SC $468k M/F) was offered a one-game ban for his dangerous tackle on Patrick Dangerfield.
