Coleman out for 8-10 weeks, Fyfe & Danger roles clarified, Walsh on track for early return

Popular pre-season pick Keidean Coleman was ruled out for two months, while Sam Walsh is on track for an early return and there was role clarification from Patrick Dangerfield and Nat Fyfe.

The Brisbane Lions confirmed a lengthy absence for cheap defender/forward Keidean Coleman (AF $343k SC $262k D/F). Lions High Performance manager Damien Austin said: “(Scans) showed a relatively substantial hamstring strain so we will take our time with that, so it will probably be 8 to 10 weeks.”

Brownlow medallist Nat Fyfe (AF $709k SC $546k MID) revealed he’ll primarily be playing midfield this season, which may have an impact on those around him like Will Brodie and Andy Brayshaw. Fyfe told 7NewsPerth: “That experiment of playing forward yielded some good results, but it’s officially over. I’m a midfielder and that’s where I’m playing.”

Lowly-owned gun Patrick Dangerfield (AF $728k SC $567k MID) offered an insight into his likely role this season on AFL360. He said: “Plans are back in the middle and a bit forward.”

Callum Mills (AF $922k SC $612k MID) said he will need to keep managing his Achilles issue but should be OK for Round 1. Mills said: “It’s tracking really well. I was able to play about a half last week against North. It’s pulled up really well. Hopefully get another week of training in and see how we go.”

Sam Walsh (AF $914k SC $637k MID) is looking like returning sooner rather than later from his syndesmosis injury. Carlton captain Patrick Cripps said: “We’ll see him in the first month, when that is who knows. If you ask him, he’s chomping at the bit for Round 1 but I’d say it would be some time in the first month. He’ll be ramping it up pretty soon.”

Tim Taranto (AF $904k SC $529k M/F) appears set for more forward time in Toby Greene’s absence. GWS coach Leon Cameron said on “Clearly Taranto has been there (forward) a fair bit and he’s done that last year. He will be pivotal for us.”

West Coast added three supplementary selection period (SSP) signings in ruckman Luke Strnadica, winger Patrick Naish and onballer Tom Joyce.

SuperCoach confirmed the prices of SSP trio Tom Lynch (SC $413k FWD), Jarrod Leinert (SC $319k DEF) and Mitchell Cox (SC $102k D/M) although nothing yet from AFL Fantasy.
