Steketee and Swepson create selection squeeze at Heat, Mahmood called up for Thunder

Mark Steketee and Mitch Swepson have been released from the Test squad creating a selection squeeze at the Brisbane Heat which may see one of Liam Guthrie, James Bazley or Xavier Bartlett miss out.

The Brisbane Heat named a 13-man squad to play the Sydney Thunder on Sunday night with two major inclusions with Mitch Swepson ($163k BWL) and Mark Steketee ($153k BWL) released from the Test squad.

The Heat update: “Swepson and paceman Mark Steketee will re-join the Heat today after being in Adelaide this week as part of the extended Australian squad for the Second Test.”

Steketee comes into the squad with Cameron Gannon has been squeezed out. Swepson played last game.

The situation creates a dilemma for the Heat, with one of Liam Guthrie, James Bazley or Xavier Bartlett likely to make way.

Saqib Mahmood ($125k BWL) is also included for the first time for the Thunder who named a 15-man squad, with Lachlan Hearne, Baxter Holt and Arjun Nair dropping out.

Mahmood said: “I’m open to different roles, I can bowl at the top of the innings, at the back end, in the middle. I’m someone who’s a flexible operator with the ball.”
