TEAM NEWS
The Melbourne Renegades named an extended 17-man squad to play the Adelaide Strikers on Tuesday, with the only relevant news being Unmukt Chand ($105k BAT) was left out as their fourth import.
The Strikers selected a 13-member squad, with two replacement players included in Daniel Drew (pred $42k BAT) and Tom Kelly (pred $42k BAT). One of them or Liam Scott ($42k BAT/BWL) will definitely play.
Drew is a 25-year-old batsman, who has made one Shield appearance for SA in 2019 and is currently second top scorer in SA Premier Cricket, while Kelly is a 20-year-old batsman who debuted in the Marsh Cup for SA last month.
Fawad Ahmed ($102k BWL) wasn’t in the Strikers squad to travel to Melbourne due to an injury.
Strikers coach Jason Gillespie said: “Fawad is not travelling with us at the moment. He’s just got a little niggle in his side. We’re hopeful he’ll be available when we get back to Adelaide later in the week. We’re just getting him assessed today.”
Renegades: Richardson (c), Boyce, Evans, Finch, Fraser-McGurk, Harper, Harvey, Zahir Khan, Lalor, Merlo, Mohammad Nabi, Pattinson, Perry, Prestwidge, Seymour, Sutherland, Topley
Strikers: Siddle (c), Agar, Drew, Garton, Gibson, T.Kelly, Rashid Khan, Nielsen (wk), Scott, Short, Weatherald, Wells, Worrall
UPDATES
There were a few items to come out of Sunday’s game, with Sixers batsman Josh Philippe flagging Dan Christian ($184k BAT/BWL) may miss the second game of their double, against the Hobart Hurricanes on Wednesday.
Philippe said on 7Cricket: “Sean Abbott’s (partner) is due (to give birth) very soon hence why he’s back & snuck for us in today. Dan Christian as well, I think he’s due tomorrow.”
Stars skipper Glenn Maxwell provided an update on Marcus Stoinis ($163k BAT/BWL) after he missed the game with a side strain.
Maxwell said: “Hopefully next game. He played the practice game and actually hit the ball pretty well but just thought he wasn’t quite ready to go for a Big Bash game.”
He also discussed Nathan Coulter-Nile ($189k BWL) and a few other potential ins. Maxwell said: “We’ve got Coulter-Nile, Joe Burns, Qais Ahmed, (Ahmed) Daniyal from Pakistan (all coming back) and our other overseas signing (Andre Russell). We’ve got plenty of options as well as a solid number seven in Coults.”
