UPDATES

Stars all-rounder Marcus Stoinis ($163k BAT/BWL) was a shock late absentee for their season opener against the Sydney Sixers on Sunday night with a side strain.

Stoinis told 7Cricket on the boundary: “Nothing serious. I’ve got a little side strain. I was close to playing. It’s been hanging around a few weeks. Next game hopefully.”

The Stars are also set to bolster their squad with some imports, with West Indian all-rounder Andre Russell (BAT/BWL) heavily linked.

Thunder coach Trevor Bayliss hyped up Daniel Sams ($203k BAT/BWL) once again. He told cricket.com.au: “He’s raring to go, he smacked a few balls (on Thursday), bowled well, livewire in the field, he’s got a sniff of being around the Australia team and he’ll be doing his utmost to push for higher honours.”

Nick Hobson ($42k BAT) has been mooted as a Scorchers opener but he told 91.3 Sport FM he may bat anywhere in the top six.

Hobson said: “I opened the batting in a practice game but equally I feel I can play a role in the middle order, 5-6 position, if that what the team needs. That’s been the messaging, be prepared for anywhere in the top 6.”

Hayden Kerr ($62k BAT/BWL) spoke about his potential role for the Sixers. Kerr told cricket.com.au: “Hopefully I can fit in where I can. Wherever that may be in the order, it could be anywhere from one to eight and same with the ball, new ball to old ball.”

TOMORROW

Jason Gillespie will speak to the media in the morning, while we’ll get the squads for the Renegades-Strikers game.
