Waiting in the wings: Caldwell pushes his case, Reeves ‘strong’, no West

Despite another weekend of no VFL action, Jye Caldwell could be making a late season charge after a successful outing in Essendon’s VFL scratch match while Ned Reeves was solid but unspectacular.
Essendon
Jye Caldwell (AF $529k SC $348k M/F) made a successful return from injury in a scratch match against Sydney. Despite playing limited minutes, VFL senior coach Leigh Tudor said: “He won a lot of hard balls and used it well. It was pretty impressive. He looked strong and ran really hard”.
Hawthorn
Ned Reeves (AF $376k SC $279k RUCK) played in a scrimmage game for the Hawks but probably didn’t do enough to impress. VFL coach Sam Mitchell said: “Reeves was very strong in the ruck against Majak Daw, winning the majority of hit-outs, but wasn’t able to get involved in offence this week.”
West Coast Eagles
Josh Rotham (AF $513k SC $396k DEF) had 23 disposals and nine marks and could put pressure on Luke Foley’s job security.
Likewise, Jarrod Brander (AF $424k SC $276k M/F) was impressive with 27 disposals and a goal and could put pressure on Luke Edwards. Mid-season draftee Connor West (AF $298k SC $176k MID) did not play.
Adelaide
James Borlase (AF $170k SC $102k DEF) was impressive despite playing out of position, finishing the game with 22 disposals, 23 hit-outs and 10 marks.
Josh Worrell (AF $170k SC $123k D/F)finished with 26 disposals, while Ronin O’Connor (AF $193k SC $123k MID) collected 19 disposals.
Port Adelaide
Jed McEntee (AF $170k SC $102k MID) had a strong performance, finishing with 19 disposals and two goals.
Sam Powell-Pepper (AF $426k SC $323k M/F) will be pushing his case for a recall after collecting 30 disposals, eight tackles and a goal.
