Longmire hopeful on Mills, Lloyd ‘expected to be fine’, R23 fixtures locked

Sydney coach John Longmire spoke to the media, offering more updates on Callum Mills and Jake Lloyd who appear set to play in Round 23, while Trent Cotchin is ruled out opening up a midfield role.

On Callum Mills (AF $830k SC $588k D/M*), Longmire said: “We’re hoping he’ll be OK to come back in as well. He won’t be 100% but he hasn’t been for the majority of the year anyway. We expect him to be available this week.”

On Jake Lloyd (AF $706k SC $520k DEF), Longmire said: “We expect Jake to be fine. He’ll come back into the team this week.”

Josh Kennedy (AF $649k SC $486k MID) also was injured late in their Round 22 game against North and will not play in Round 23 along with Nick Blakey (AF $476k SC $347k M/F) who fractured his fibula.

On Kennedy, Longmire said: “Kennedy has a scan late this afternoon, we suspect he’s got a very low grade hamstring. It’ll only be very minor. We don’t expect him to play this week. The scan will give us a bit more information.”

Richmond confirmed that Trent Cotchin (AF $581k SC $366k MID) is out this round which may positively impact Shai Bolton‘s (AF $490k SC $355k M/F) role.

The Tigers update said: “Will miss the Tigers’ Round 23 clash with Hawthorn after succumbing to a PCL injury.”

GWS put out their injury report which mentioned that Tom Green (AF $547k SC $416k MID) is a test this round following his hamstring injury.

The Giants also revealed pre-season pick Braydon Preuss (AF $377k SC $303k RUCK) is in line to play VFL this round.

The R23 fixtures dropped late in the day, while it was confirmed earlier that the pre-finals bye has officially been scrapped opening up the potential for players to be rested. Watch this space.
