West Coast v Melbourne

Shannon Hurn (AF $703k SC $495k DEF) went down injured and was subbed off. West Coast coach Adam Simpson said: “I think it’s a very slight hamstring. But not good enough to come back on… We’ll lose Shannon (for the R22 derby). See what happens with JK’s knee. He came back on, so fingers crossed.”

Liam Duggan (AF $559k SC $378k D/M) was a late withdrawal with a knee complaint. Simpson said: “We won’t get back Duggan. Duggan we have to do some more investigation on that knee. He’ll need to get a scan.”

Simpson said he expects Luke Shuey (AF $612k SC $427k MID), Tom Barrass (AF $454k SC $429k DEF) and Liam Ryan (AF $401k SC $303k FWD) to be available next round.

Jayden Hunt (AF $403k SC $285k DEF) was subbed off for Melbourne with an ankle injury.

Fremantle v Brisbane Lions

Nathan Wilson (AF $477k SC $393k DEF) was subbed off with a hamstring injury. Freo coach Justin Longmuir said: “I imagine we will get it scanned and see how he goes.”

Mitch Robinson (AF $590k SC $386k MID) was subbed out with calf tightness. Lions coach Chris Fagan said: “Mitch has had a bit of a history with calf injuries and he felt his calf was getting tighter. He got him off to prevent an injury happening… I would’ve thought he’s a good chance to play next week but I’ve not spoken to our medical people.”

Lachie Neale (AF $696k SC $513k MID) missed the game but appears certain to return. Fagan said: “Obviously Lachie Neale will be (available). He just missed today with gastro. Lachie has missed a lot of football this year. If we can get those guys up and going coming into finals it’ll help us, that’s for sure.”

Western Bulldogs v Essendon

Josh Bruce (AF $387k SC $292k FWD) went down late with a serious knee injury. Dogs coach Luke Beveridge said: “That seems to be the fear (an ACL injury). It’s not looking good, but our guys will confirm what the outcome is after a scan tomorrow.”

Dyson Heppell (AF $683k SC $517k D/M*) looks set to return next round. Essendon coach Ben Rutten said: “We’re hoping he’s available next week. He had a similar break to his other thumb. He’ll come back in next week providing he gets through everything this week at training.”

Hawthorn v Collingwood

James Worpel (AF $619k SC $431k MID) was subbed out for Hawthorn with an apparent foot issue. Hawks coach Alastair Clarkson said: “Worpy hurt his foot. He was deemed OK to return but he was hobbling around. he took the chance to take him out. He couldn’t run anywhere near as well as we liked. We’ll get that assessed early in the week.”

Clarkson also praised Tom Mitchell (AF $887k SC $650k MID) after a 44-possession game. He said: “He’s a pretty important member of our side. He’s been a pretty consistent performer for us this year. His work rate, his hunt at the footy is really really strong.”

Pies coach Robert Harvey praised Finlay Macrae (AF $247k SC $135k M/F). Harvey said: “He’s looking likely. He’s getting a lot of extra responsibility in an AFL midfield. He’s coming on pretty well. There’s a lot to work with there.”

Adelaide v Port Adelaide

Brodie Smith (AF $643k SC $468k D/M) was subbed off after a head knock, while Will Hamill (AF $295k SC $248k DEF) went down concussed too.

Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks said: “Will is up and about in the rooms. “I’m pretty sure he’ll go through the protocol now from a concussion point of view. “He was moving really well in the rooms … smiling and feeling pretty good. That’s a great sign for him. Brodie was moving well, quite a substantial cut really. He was feeling pretty good.”

St Kilda v Sydney

Callum Mills (AF $830k SC $588k D/M*) was a late withdrawal with an Achilles problem. Sydney coach John Longmire: “He’s had Achilles soreness for a fair bit of the year and we thought we were getting on top of it before he went into isolation.

“It needs a bit of loading, through that period he wasn’t able to get the loading he required and he’s sort of taken a step backwards. Hopefully we can get him right for next week, it certainly wasn’t right for tonight. We were hopeful we could get him to be OK, but it was getting worse the closer we got to the game rather than better.”

Max King (AF $438k SC $355k FWD) was subbed out for St Kilda with an apparent adductor issue.

Richmond v North Melbourne

Neither side used their sub.

Carlton v Gold Coast

Brandon Ellis (AF $661k SC $461k MID) was subbed out with a hamstring injury. Suns coach Stuart Dew: “He’s trained fully for two weeks, so it’s disappointing for him, disappointing for us. It’s another hamstring, I’m not sure if it’s the same one [as last time] as of yet … but clearly that would appear that’ll be the season unfortunately for Brandon.”

There are also reports Sam Walsh (AF $836k SC $679k MID) was sent for scans post-game although nothing official from the club.

Teague said post-game: “I don’t even know what Sam did. I haven’t followed up, it’s been a quick turnaround. We’ll review them in the morning.”

Geelong v GWS Giants

Patrick Dangerfield (AF $719k SC $623k M/F) was subbed out early after an elbow to the throat from Toby Greene (AF $581k SC $419k FWD) who’ll come under MRO scrutiny. Geelong coach Chris Scott said after the game: “My understanding is he got that contact to the throat region and was having trouble breathing. I think they took him to hospital as a precaution, as much as anything. But we haven’t got any further update. I think it’s probably good news that we haven’t got a negative update.”

The club since put out an update: “Patrick Dangerfield has been cleared of significant injury after suffering a blow to his throat last night. Scans this morning showed bruising of his laryngeal but no fracture to the area. He has been discharged from hospital and is resting at home. Dangerfield’s availability for next weekend’s game will be assessed later in the week.”

Geelong also lost Gary Rohan (AF $433k SC $360k FWD) and Zach Tuohy (AF $675k SC $476k D/M) to hip and hamstring injuries respectively.

Josh Kelly (AF $762k SC $503k M/F*) was a late withdrawal with a tight right quad. GWS coach Leon Cameron sad post-game: “We think Kelly will be OK, but he’s coming off a tight quad.”

Cameron told FoxFooty pre-game: “He pulled up a bit tight on his right quad. There’s a little bit there, hopefully it’s just this weekend & not next weekend. We just probably couldn’t take that chance on a five-dayer.”

Brent Daniels (AF $405k SC $329k FWD) was subbed out by GWS with a hamstring injury.

Greene has since been offered a two-game ban by the AFL MRO and the Giants have confirmed they will appeal it.
