Josh Kelly (AF $762k SC $503k M/F*) was confirmed as a late withdrawal for the GWS Giants on Friday with quad tightness.

GWS said in their update: “Kelly reported tightness following training on Thursday and was ruled out on Friday, with the GIANTS coming off a five-day break since their last match… Kelly is expected to be available to play next round.”

We also missed that Callum Brown (AF $170k SC $123k DEF) will actually make his proper debut this round, having been an unused medical sub in Round 11. He’s an Irish Category B Rookie.

UPDATES

Dogs coach Luke Beveridge moved to reassure that Cody Weightman (AF $411k SC $295k FWD) will return next round having been managed this week.

Beveridge said: “Cody was in line to continue on and play against the Bombers but he’s just a little bit too sore, so we thought we’d give him a week off. Hopefully he’ll be alright for the following week.”

James Jordon (AF $463k SC $312k MID) is no certainty to take Jack Viney’s place for Monday’s game against West Coast according to Demons coach Simon Goodwin.

Goodwin said: “In the squad we’ve picked vandenBerg, Melksham & Jordon who was the sub last week. They’re three midfielders who could come in & play his role. We’ll finalise our team tomorrow.”

Pies coach Robert Harvey was asked about the in-form Jordan De Goey (AF $744k SC $516k M/F*) once again and his midfield role.

Harvey said: “He’s been hungry to play there for a while. We made more of a conservative decision to play him in the midfield.

“At times he’s still going to go forward…he’s at that age and maturity now where he knows where he wants to be and he’s really committed to working hard towards getting that done so I think largely midfield is going to be his position.”

Taylor Walker (AF $463k SC $349k FWD) was the big news of the morning, having been hit with a club suspension for making a racist comment, ending his 2021 season.

Adelaide’s statement said: “Has been suspended for six AFL matches … after admitting to making a racist comment while attending but not participating in a match against North Adelaide on July 17.”
