Waiting in the wings: Witherden dominates, Jeka, Callow & Newcombe press their case

This weekend saw the return of some VFL action, while Alex Witherden was the star of the show for an Eagles team looking for reinforcements, while Emerson Jeka and Jai Newcombe pushed for recalls.



Tom Wilson (AF $213k SC $136k FWD) was named best afield, collecting 27 disposals and kicking a goal.

North Melbourne

In his first VFL game Charlie Comben (AF $170k SC $123k F/R) was dynamic up forward, taking 5 marks to go with his 2 goals.

Mid-season draftee Jacob Edwards (AF $170k SC $102k ) kicked a goal late to finish the game with 6 disposals.

St Kilda

Dan Hannebery (AF $662k SC $338k MID) continued his return from injury, collecting 18 disposals and nine clearances.


Luke Parks (AF $224k SC $173k DEF) had 15 disposals, while Brodie Kemp (AF $170k SC $123k MID) finished with 14 disposals and eight marks.


Emerson Jeka (AF $196k SC $155k FWD) put in a strong performance, kicking 4 goals, while Mid-season draftee Jackson Callow (AF $170k SC $102k FWD) chimed in with two majors of his own.

Jai Newcombe (AF $307k SC $169k MID) had 22 disposals and seven tackles.


Kye Declase (AF 170k SC $102k D/M) collected 28 disposals and kicked a goal.

Western Bulldogs

Jordon Sweet (AF $349k SC $226k RUC) was dominant in the ruck, finishing with 49 hit-outs and six tackles.

Lachlan McNeil (AF $321k SC $231k M/F) was lively with 19 disposals and three goals.

West Coast Eagles

Alex Witherden (AF $640k SC $415k DEF) pushed his case for an immediate recall after collecting 40 disposals and 11 marks on the weekend.

Luke Foley (AF $269k SC $197k DEF) was also impressive, finishing with 19 disposals and a goal.

Jarrod Brander (AF $424k SC $276k M/F) found plenty of the ball, gathering 33 disposals. His possible inclusion could put pressure on the job security of Connor West.
