R20 Rolling Injury Report: Ryder late withdrawal, Brayshaw praise, Briggs likely

Fremantle v Richmond
Bailey Banfield (AF $324k SC $246k FWD) suffered a concussion and was subbed out. Freo coach Justin Longmuir said: “He is moving around the change rooms really well and able to talk to everyone. He was a bit groggy there for 30 odd minutes.”
Andrew Brayshaw (AF $820k SC $565k MID) had a huge game and won praise from Longmuir, who said: “I was really, really pleased with Andy. He’s been working on a lot of areas of his game. He’s had a very, very good season and I just thought his last quarter, his leadership, he had a will to win and he never stopped trying. He probably stood out in that last quarter just with some of those efforts defensively to win the ball back.”
GWS Giants v Port Adelaide
Jacob Hopper (AF $653k SC $457k MID) was carried off after a nasty concussion. He was monitored in hospital and has been cleared of structural damage. GWS coach Leon Cameron said: “Clearly he’s concussed. He’s gone off to hospital just to check out how bad it is but we’ll just have to wait and see over the coming days.
“He was a bit groggy, that’s why we went with the precautions. The doc has been great, the club has handled it really well. He’ll just get checked out and see how he progresses over the coming days.”
Phil Davis (AF $323k SC $274k DEF) had a concussion and was subbed out. Daniel Lloyd (AF $478k SC $328k DEF) and Sam Reid (AF $262k SC $207k DEF) had ankle issues but played on.
Kieren Briggs (AF $255k SC $174k D/F) looks like he’ll get a game next week with Shane Mumford (AF $485k SC $452k RUCK) needing a rest. Cameron said: “(Mumford) did a mighty effort to get up. We had Kieren Briggs in quarantine, he got out but we felt he needed a run. It’s highly unlikely Shane will play next week. It’ll be a great opportunity for Briggs or Sproule.”
Hawthorn v Brisbane Lions
Luke Breust (AF $422k SC $367k FWD) had a knee injury and was subbed out.
Essendon v Sydney
Jayden Laverde (AF $383k SC $304k D/F) had a shoulder complaint and was subbed late.
Gold Coast v Melbourne
Tom McDonald (AF $532k SC $437k FWD) was subbed off with a back issue. Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin said: “He’ll be a day-by-day proposition. We’re hopeful, but we’ll just have to see how he pulls up. He’s pretty sore and he was struggling there for a while. I’m pretty sure once it settles we’ll have a good indication where it sits.”
Collingwood v West Coast
Neither side used their sub.
North Melbourne v Geelong
Neither side used their sub.
Western Bulldogs v Adelaide
Adelaide had two injury concerns with Chayce Jones (AF $350k SC $248k D/M) suffering a corked quad and Elliott Himmelberg (AF $382k SC $288k FWD) with a knee contusion but he’s been cleared of significant damage.
Dogs coach Luke Beveridge spoke glowingly about Caleb Daniel (AF $657k SC $479k DEF). He said: “They (Dale & Daniel) played really important roles across half-back. When we were down on our midfield brigade, Caleb played inside. He’s playing everywhere. He’s such a talented and really important player for us. He’s so reliable. Today, between him and Dale, they would’ve caused some headaches.”
St Kilda v Carlton
Paddy Ryder (AF $542k SC $425k RUCK) was a late out with an Achilles injury, which likely positively impacted the role of popular trade-in option Rowan Marshall (AF $584k SC $464k F/R). St Kilda coach Brett Ratten said: “He’s a bit sore. It’ll be a week-by-week thing. We’ll have to wait & see.”
Ratten said Dougal Howard (AF $474k SC $395k DEF) would miss 2-3 weeks with a hamstring injury and that Hunter Clark (AF $522k SC $330k D/M) had a “knock to the head” and was ruled out with concussion not a re-occurrence of his jaw issue.
Carlton coach Brett Ratten said Tom De Koning‘s (AF $462k SC $340k F/R) injury, which forced him to be subbed out, was a “hit below the pec” but didn’t know more about the extent.
