Waiting in the wings: Coniglio & Butters return, Mansell in the mix, Reeves stars in VFL

Some big names and popular fantasy players returned from injury for GWS and Port Adelaide, while North Melbourne could be welcoming some senior players back into the fold.

Richmond

Rhyan Mansell (AF $244k SC 160k DEF) was productive in defence and pushed his case for selection following the recent injury to Bachar Houli. Richmond’s VFL report said: “Rhyan Mansell was another defender who provided spunk and spark, stiff in his defensive actions and proactive by hand and foot”.

Mid-season draftee Matthew Parker (AF $308k SC $141k M/F) pushed his case for selection, collecting 29 disposals and ten tackles.

Collingwood

Max Lynch (AF $229k SC $123k RUC) was dominant in the ruck again, collecting 36 hit-outs, 17 disposals and six clearances. Tom Wilson (AF $213k SC $136k FWD) finished with a season-high 31 disposals. Collingwood’s VFL report added: “He was outstanding in aerial contests, utilising his athleticism and height to mark and spoil.”

Jay Rantall (AF $172k SC $113k MID) found plenty of the ball, finishing the game with 28 disposals. Jack Ginnivan (AF $170k SC $102k M/F) had his best performance of the season on the weekend, collecting 15 disposals to go with a career high four goals.

GWS

GWS captain Stephen Coniglio (AF $670k SC $477k MID) made a successful return from injury on the weekend. Despite playing on managed minutes Coniglio finished with 16 disposals and 11 tackles.

Kieren Briggs (AF $255k SC $174k D/F) returned to the VFL on the weekend registering 16 disposals and 29 hit-outs. Mid-season draftee James Peatling (AF $170k SC $102k) was a standout for the Giants, collecting 18 disposals and kicking a goal.

Port Adelaide

Zak Butters (AF $616k SC $501k M/F) made his return from injury on the weekend, collecting 21 disposals and kicking two goals to put his hand up for immediate AFL selection.

Tom Clurey also returned from injury which could put pressure on the job security of Martin Frederick (AF $255k SC $180k DEF) and Miles Bergman (AF $451k SC $337k D/F).

Geelong

Charlie Constable (AF $437k SC $262k MID) put in another monster performance on the weekend, racking up over 40 disposals for the second week in a row. Oscar Brownless (AF $170k SC $123k MID) was impressive again with 26 disposals and two goals.

Hawthorn

Ned Reeves (AF $245k SC $123k RUC) put together another strong performance, finishing the game with 38 hit-outs, 13 disposals and a goal.

North Melbourne

Jared Polec (AF $602k SC $432k MID) played another full game on the weekend, registering 32 disposals, 6 tackles and a goal. If he can break into the AFL side, his selection could put pressure on Will Phillips (AF $291k SC $190k).

Jed Anderson (AF $783k SC $562k MID) made his return from an ankle injury, collecting 8 disposals and six clearances in limited game time. Charlie Lazzaro (AF $294k SC $188k M/F) had more mid time and starred with 29 disposals and a goal. North’s VFL coach Leigh Adams said: “He was clean inside, he was making good decisions and I was really happy with his game.”

Sydney Swans

Dylan Stephens (AF $384k SC $279k MID) was one of Sydney’s best collecting 34 disposals and six marks.

Adelaide

Brayden Cook (AF $22k SC $117k M/F) kicked a game high four goals in an impressive performance for Adelaide, while Ronin O’Connor (AF $193k SC $123k MID) finished with 21 disposals and 12 tackles.

Western Bulldogs

Jordan Sweet (AF $349k SC $226k RUC) finished the game with 23 hit-outs and 11 disposals. Jamarra Ugle-Hagan (AF $270k SC $207k FWD) was well held, kicking a goal to go with his 6 disposals. 

Carlton

Jack Carroll (AF $190k SC $117k MID) and Brodie Kemp (AF $170k SC $123k MID) put in strong performances, registering 23 and 21 disposals respectively. Carlton’s VFL report said: “Playing down back, Kemp was able to halt Coburg’s attacks on multiple occasions while also generating some attack with his rebound.”

Melbourne

Jake Bowey (AF $230k SC $117k M/F) was the top disposal getter for Melbourne, finishing the game with 26 disposals in another strong performance.  

Essendon

Nick Byran (AF $195k SC $123k RUC) had an intriguing battle with Darcy Fort in the ruck, finishing with 29 hit-outs and 17 disposals.

St Kilda

Oscar Clavarino (AF $172k SC #123k DEF) was impressive in the back half for the Saints, collecting 17 disposals and finishing with a team-high eight marks.

Gold Coast Suns

Rory Atkins (AF $427k SC $254k MID) and Will Brodie (AF $448k SC $317k M/F) both finished with a game-high 33 disposals.
