Carlton v Adelaide

Marc Murphy (AF $470k SC $326k M/F) was subbed out with a calf injury. Blues coach David Teague said they hoped it was minor but would need scans.

Rory Sloane (AF $622k SC $495k MID) may be set for a stint out with Adelaide suspecting he has sustained a high-grade tendon injury to his left ring finger.

Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks said: “We are a bit concerned and we had another player with a similar injury earlier in the year in Lachlan Gollant and he missed a substantial amount of time. We are not exactly sure yet and we will have to get scans done and have it checked out, but there’s a possibility we will miss him for a while.”

West Coast v Western Bulldogs

Ryan Gardner (AF $221k SC $190k DEF) was subbed out with a shoulder injury and coach Luke Beveridge said: “I imagine he’s going to miss some weeks.”

Marcus Bontempelli (AF $878k SC $691k MID) copped a late hit to his shoulder but Beveridge said he was OK. He said: “I think he’ll be fine. It was one of those stingers late… You hold your breath a bit but I think he’s just got a stinger & will be OK.”

GWS Giants v Hawthorn

Chad Wingard (AF $582k SC $418k M/F) was subbed off with a hamstring injury. Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson said: “He’ll get scanned. We don’t think it’s a serious soft tissue injury. There was some tightness there. We didn’t want to take a risk.”

Denver Grainger-Barras (AF $260k SC $184k DEF) sat out the final quarter with a head knock. Clarkson said: “He got a knock to the head towards the end of the third quarter. We’re not sure where & how it happened. He’s a concussion protocol so he won’t back up next week.”

GWS coach Leon Cameron mentioned that Stephen Coniglio (AF $670k SC $477k MID) was close but wouldn’t return yet. He said: “He might play some footy but he won’t play at the top level (next weekend). He probably needs a run or 2 to get his footy fitness up. We’ll weigh that up.”

Port Adelaide v Sydney

Trent McKenzie (AF $519k SC $425k DEF) injured his shoulder late and was subbed off. Port coach Ken Hinkley said: “I don’t think it’s broken, but we’ll wait and see where it lands. Another one will get added to the [injury] list probably, but hopefully it’s not too bad.”

Essendon v Melbourne

Neither side used their sub.

Collingwood v Fremantle

Nat Fyfe (AF $659k SC $538k M/F*) was a late withdrawal for Fremantle due to his troublesome shoulder. Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir told FoxFooty: “He just didn’t really feel 100 per cent confident and it’s probably got nothing to do with the pain or the shoulder itself. It’s just about him being able to perform at his best and he just didn’t feel up to it.

“With a shoulder injury, you’ve got to be able to take the ball above your head with pressure on you, you have to be able to put your head over ground balls.”

On playing next round, Longmuir added: “He should be right for next week. We expect him to play.”

Matt Taberner (AF $498k SC $357k FWD) was subbed out. Longmuir said: “Doesn’t look like ‘Tabs’ is a serious injury, it’s not a re-occurrence of his ankle, it looks like a high calf strain.”

Beau McCreery (AF $340k SC $220k FWD) hurt his hamstring early. Collingwood interim coach Rob Harvey: “He’ll rehab and hopefully get a few games later this year… It was significant enough to be limping around in the rooms. He’s never done one so we’ll wait & see.”

North Melbourne v Gold Coast

Neither side used their sub.

Noah Anderson (AF $531k SC $374k MID) had an issue. Suns coach Stuart Dew: “I haven’t had a chance to check in with Noah. I think from that contest it was shoulder but I’m guessing.”

Richmond v St Kilda

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick admitted it looks like Noah Balta (AF $424k SC $369k DEF) has done an ACL. He said: “I don’t like to speculate but it doesn’t look great. It looks that way.” It has since been revealed it is an ankle injury not an ACL.

He also suggested Nathan Broad (AF $509k SC $397k DEF) had a syndesmosis injury and Nick Vlastuin (AF $497k SC $405k DEF) had a worrying leg problem as well. If both miss, that may aid Rhyan Mansell (AF $262k SC $176k DEF), who was the medical sub on Friday night.

Hardwick also offered an update on Tom Lynch (AF $431k SC $318k FWD) who is out with a knee issue which is relevant to Callum Coleman-Jones (AF $414k SC $241k F/R). He said: “We’re not sure when Tom is back. Hopefully he might be back this week or the week after. Toby (Nankervis) is still a few weeks away.”

Jack Billings (AF $637k SC $446k M/F) was a late withdrawal. St Kilda coach Brett Ratten said: “Billings had a sore knee & hurt it in the warm-up so he came out… I think he’ll be right next week. He twisted it a bit in the warm-up.”

Nick Coffield (AF $442k SC $292k DEF) came in from sub to replace Billings before going off injured. Ratten said: “Coffield has done a hamstring. To what grade I’m not sure, but he’ll miss a week or two.”

Brisbane Lions v Geelong

Lachie Neale (AF $728k SC $576k MID) went off early with a shoulder issue after a heavy tackle but returned to play the game out. Lions coach Chris Fagan said: “He got a bit of a jar. He was able to come back out without strapping. He’ll prob be a bit sore tomorrow but we’ve got a few days to get ready for Adelaide. He should be fine as far as I know.”

Grant Birchall (AF $558k SC $359k DEF) was a late out with illness. Fagan said: “He was just a bit off-colour today. Didn’t feel too well so we left him out.”
