RCD & Mansell job security boost, Rampe return aids Mills, Highmore stars in reserves

The Swans are set to be boosted by potential returns of Lance Franklin and Dane Rampe, injury updates for the Tigers, Dogs and Demons whilst rookies were firing in the reserves across the country.

Richmond announced that captain Trent Cotchin (AF $425k SC $397k MID) and Dylan Grimes will miss next week. Whilst Dustin Martin (AF $637k SC $482k M/F) should return and Nick Vlastuin (AF $560k SC $483k DEF) is a chance.

These injuries mean that Rhyan Mansell (AF $242k SC $158k) and Riley Collier-Dawkins (AF $193k SC $123k MID) should be safe in terms of selection.

Collier Dawkins attended the most centre bounces out of any Richmond midfielder (15).

Sydney are a chance to welcome veterans Lance Franklin (AF $421k SC $349k FWD) and Dane Rampe back for their clash with the top of the ladder Demons on Saturday night.

"There's no certainty for either of them, they've still got to finish training this week… But they’ve had a good progression so far,” Sydney coach John Longmire told reporters on Monday.

Rampe’s return could be good news for Callum Mills (AF $759k SC $528k D/M), who was moved back into defence last week. The move meant that he was able to only manage 17 disposals. His score of 92 was much aided by his 11 marks.

Melbourne were forced to pull out Jack Viney (AF $687k SC $500k MID) as a late change against North Melbourne.

Today the club confirmed Viney would spend some time on the sidelines. Dees Footy GM Alan Richardson said: “We will monitor how Jack responds to the rehab plan with the aim for him to return in the next 2-3 weeks.”

This should safeguard James Jordon’s (AF $439k SC $287k MID) position in the Melbourne team after he impressed with 20 possessions, one goal and 7 tackles.

The Giants had a solid win in the VFL over the weekend with key young players having a strong influence, including Matthew Flynn (AF $394k SC $273k RUCK).

Flynn had 12 disposals, 17 hit-outs and a goal. GWS VFL coach Luke Kelly said: “Kicked a really big goal for us on halftime and provided a strong presence in the air.”

Tanner Bruhn (AF $229k SC $155k MID) was also impressive. Kelly said: “Tanner provided us with a really strong performance through the midfield. I was really impressed with his drive around the contest and his ability to hit the scoreboard.”

Tom Highmore (AF $240k SC $117k DEF) "soared with a game-high 14 marks (nine in the first half) & 30 disposals.”

Josh Treacy (AF $204k SC $108k R/F) was dropped to the WAFL last week and responded with five goals,18 disposals, 8 marks and 5 tackles.

Finally, Josh Worrell (AF $170k SC $123k D/F) continued his great form in the SANFL collecting 22 disposals.

Gold Coast Footy GM Jon Haines will talk to the media along with Adelaide skipper Rory Sloane who is closing in on a return from an eye injury.
