R7 Rolling Injury Report: Chapman worry, Ryan ‘touch & go’, Dusty & Boak updates

Stay up to date throughout the round with our rolling injury report from the coaches post-game. With the round extending from Friday through until Sunday evening, these snippets of info will be key.
West Coast v Fremantle
Eagles coach Adam Simpson offered an update on Shannon Hurn (AF $650k SC $476k DEF). He said: “I think he might have done exactly the same injury he did 2 weeks ago. The scans suggest it’s just a recurrence. Very minor. 2-3 week injury.”
He also said Tom Barrass (AF $488k SC $419k DEF) was unlikely next round. Simpson said: “Probably not. It’s a shoulder issue. It’s around the muscle tendon area.”
Heath Chapman (AF $369k SC $250k DEF) hurt his shoulder early on but played through it. Freo coach Justin Longmuir said: “We think he’ll be alright. Clearly he’ll be sore for a little bit early in the week. He’s a tough bugger. Fingers crossed we can get him up for next week.”
Luke Ryan (AF $623k SC $540k DEF) missed the game and Longmuir said he was “touch and go” for next round. He said: “We’ll just see how it plays out.” Ethan Hughes (AF $478k SC $361k DEF) was subbed off after a heavy hit and Longmuir said he’d need scans.
Essendon v Carlton
Essendon coach Ben Rutten said Aaron Francis (AF $377k SC $341k DEF) will "hopefully" return from injury next round. Otherwise they had no issues.
Paddy Dow (AF $300k SC $192k M/F) was subbed out in the first half. Carlton coach David Teague said: "He's fine from a concussion point of view. He just couldn't see out of that eye. It was more around his vision. Hopefully that all settles well."
Mitch McGovern (AF $410k SC $284k FWD) went down late and Teague said: "I think it's a hamstring."
Marc Murphy (AF $539k SC $362k M/F*) and Zac Williams (AF $583k SC $450k D/M*) both missed the game due to injury. Teague said: "They both trained on Thursday. Marc hurt his neck at training. On Saturday morning he said 'I dont think I can play at the level'. Zac trained Thursday. It was more general soreness. He should be right next week."
North Melbourne v Melbourne
Aiden Bonar (AF $375k SC $337k DEF) was subbed off for North and coach David Noble said: "Just a really bad corkie... Not sure (how long). We'll wait & see."
Tom Powell (AF $517k SC $357k MID) copped a heavy hit late in the first half but returned. Noble said: "Tom Powell was fine. I think he had his jaw assessed. He wasn't concussion tested, he didn't need it."
Adam Tomlinson (AF $403k SC $290k D/M) was subbed off with a knee injury which looked like an ACL. Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin said: "He's shattered... It's looking like an ACL. We'll get the scans to confirm that."
Jack Viney (AF $687k SC $500k MID) was a late withdrawal with a toe injury.
Sydney v Geelong
Lewis Melican (AF $352k SC $324k DEF) was subbed off, with Sydney coach John Longmire saying he hurt his hamstring as well as his groin. Longmire said Dane Rampe (AF $497k SC $435k DEF) was "a chance" to return next round to replace him.
Gryan Miers (AF $542k SC $376k FWD) was subbed out with a leg/ankle injury too. Cats coach Chris Scott said: "We think it's a cork to his lower leg. He just couldn't function."
Brisbane Lions v Port Adelaide
Ryan Burton (AF $539k SC $404k DEF) was subbed out for Port Adelaide and coach Ken Hinkley said: "He'll get checked out tonight to make sure if there is or isn't damage. He got a whack in the ribs, he was sore and bruised."
Hinkley was asked about the quad injury which ruled out Travis Boak (AF $721k SC $555k MID) for this game. He said: "He should be (available for R8). He was out this week with an injury so you're never guaranteed. He'd been carrying it for a couple of weeks & we thought it could get worse."
St Kilda v Hawthorn
Saints coach Brett Ratten noted the impact of Paddy Ryder (AF $575k SC $505k RUCK) and was asked about resting him moving forward. Ratten said: "I think (a rest) will be at talking point. We haven't got too many short turnaround games coming up. We might be able to look after him during the week. He's pretty important."
Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson spoke about Chad Wingard (AF $646k SC $449k M/F) and Jaeger O'Meara (AF $727k SC $539k MID) who both missed the game through injury. Clarkson said: “If it had been a really big game I’m sure they would have played. We’ll be hopeful they’ll both be available next week."
He also touched on Shaun Burgoyne (AF $389k SC $345k D/F) indicating he was unlikely to play next round with an ankle injury.
Adelaide v GWS Giants
The only player subbed out of the game was GWS's Brent Daniels (AF $415k SC $335k FWD). GWS coach Leon Cameron said: "Daniels is a hamstring. Touch wood I'm hoping it's not too bad but he's had that before so it's a recurrence. He'll probably have a stint out." That may impact Tanner Bruhn's (AF $229k SC $155k MID) selection.
Cameron also touched on their ruck situation with Shane Mumford (AF $493k SC $420k RUCK) and Matthew Flynn (AF $394k SC $273k RUCK). Speaking about Mumford, Cameron said: "It's a hard one because (Mumford's) pushing 35 but he was unbelievably good today. The midfield grow a leg when he's there but equally they're liking Matty Flynn. He probably plays 3 games in a row at best."
Matt Buntine (AF $283k SC $213k D/F) suffered a concussion, while Sam Reid (AF $289k SC $226k DEF) hurt his hamstring. Cameron said about Reid: "He probably won't come up next week."
Reilly O'Brien (AF $701k SC $561k RUCK) appeared to have a back/hamstring complaint but Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks said: "As far as I'm aware ROB is fine. I haven't had a medical report in detail.... I think we've come through unscathed but I don't want to speak too soon."
Nicks also updated on Rory Sloane's (AF $620k SC $507k MID) return from an eye injury. Nicks said: "We're very mindful of what we do in that space. He's out on the track. I think he's pushing for this week. We'd love to get him back."
Collingwood v Gold Coast Suns
No new injury concerns or talking points.
Richmond v Western Bulldogs
Trent Cotchin (AF $544k SC $411k MID) was subbed off late with a hamstring injury. Richmond coach Damien Hardwick said: "I think it's a hamstring, unfortunately... He'll obviously miss some weeks, we're not too sure how many it will be."
That may assist the job security of debutant Riley Collier-Dawkins (AF $170k SC $123k MID) who won praise from Hardwick. He said: "He had 11 contested possessions. He had a couple of crucial centre-bounce clearances. He's only going to get better. It was a really exciting debut for him. We really like what we saw."
Hardwick also touched on the availability of Dustin Martin (AF $637k SC $482k M/F) after concussion. He said: "If he passes his test, absolutely (he'll return) as far as we're concerned. He'll come back hopefully refreshed & ready to go."
