Roy faces fitness test, Sixers name unchanged squad, Ball & Pope to miss out

The Sydney Sixers named an unchanged 19-man squad for Saturday’s Final, with their expected to be no changes from the side which beat the Scorchers last weekend in the Qualifier.

Mitch Starc ($190k BWL) was already ruled out of contention, while the Sixers may have a selection quandary with their bowling attack. Import Jake Ball ($120k BWL) and spinner Lloyd Pope ($88k BWL) missed out last game.

Josh Philippe ($188k WKP/BAT) is a potential captaincy option and captain Moises Henriques heaped praise on him.

“This year he’s taken his consistency up a notch,” Henriques said. “For a young man like himself to get that, it’s a reward for a lot of hard work.

“Tomorrow is another opportunity to go out there and show his consistency and hopefully play well for us again tomorrow.”

Sixers squad: Abbott, Avendano, Ball, Bertus, Bird, Brathwaite, Christian, Dwarshuis, J.Edwards, Henriques, Hughes, Kerr, Manenti, O’Keefe, Philippe, Pope, Sandhu, Silk, Vince

The Scorchers’ big selection dilemma will come down to fitness, with Jason Roy ($152k BAT) set to return from an ankle issue if he passes a fitness test.

Otherwise, it seems, Cameron Bancroft ($79k BAT/WKP) will hold his spot.

Scorchers skipper Ashton Turner said: “We know Jason will go through a fitness test before the game tomorrow but I’m not too stressed either way.

“We’d love to have Jason but should he not pull up, Cameron Bancroft is capable of being a match-winner.”
