Spiceman ruled out for BBL|10, Abbott confirmed for Round 12 return

Andre Fletcher has succumbed to a quad injury and played his final game for BBL|10, while it’s business as usual for the Brisbane Heat and Perth Scorchers among squad selection.

The Brisbane Heat have named an unchanged squad for their clash with the Renegades at Marvel Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Heat squad: Bartlett, Bazley, Burns, Bryant, Cooper, Denly, Gregory, Heazlett, Kuhnemann, Labuschagne, Laughlin, Lynn, Morkel, Pfeffer, Peirson, Steketee, Swepson, Wildermuth

The Renegades named their 17-man squad on Saturday morning, with Marcus Harris ($62k BAT) coming in for the injured Kane Richardson ($126k BWL) who won’t return this season.

Renegades squad: Finch, Couch, Evans, Fraser-McGurk, Harper, Harris, Harvey, Hatzoglou, Holland, Marsh, Lalor, Perry, Prestwidge, Stepien, Sutherland, Imad Wasim, Webster

The Melbourne Stars were forced into a change for Saturday night’s game against the Perth Scorchers at the MCG, with Andre Fletcher ($92k WKP/BAT) injured.

Tom O’Connell ($58k BWL) and Clint Hinchliffe ($92k BAT/BWL) have both come into the squad for him, with Hilton Cartwright ($90k BAT) likely to be elevated to open.

The Stars said: “Andre Fletcher has been ruled out of what would have been his final game in green for the season with a quadriceps strain.”

Stars squad: Maxwell, Cartwright, Coulter-Nile, Elliott, Gotch, Hatcher, Hinchliffe, Zahir Khan, Larkin, Maddinson, O’Connell, Rainbird, Seymour, Stanlake, Stoinis, Zampa

The Scorchers named their squad for Saturday’s game against the Melbourne Stars, when they confirmed the squad for Friday’s game, so that’ll be unchanged.

Scorchers squad: Turner, Fawad Ahmed, Bancroft, Behrendorff, Hardie, Inglis, Kelly, Livingstone, Marsh, Munro, Paris, Patterson, Richardson, Rocchiccioli, Roy, Tye

Sixers coach Greg Shipperd revealed that Sean Abbott ($219k BWL) will definitely play in Sunday’s match against the Hurricanes, after missing Friday’s loss to the Thunder following Test duty.

Shipperd said: “Sean will come back into the side. We reckon it was important for him to get some white ball skilled bowling under his belt before he’s out in that environment. He’ll be a welcome addition.”

He also provided an update on Test pair Nathan Lyon ($102k BWL) and Mitch Starc ($190k BWL), who appear unlikely to play in BBL|10.

“We’ll ask about the status of Nathan and Mitch,” Shipperd said. “It’s been prudent for us to leave them alone during that series. We’ll touch base quietly with them.”

It’s all action with a double-header and a new round starting. We’ll learn the squads for Sunday’s games between the Thunder-Strikers and Sixers-Hurricanes.
