Stoinis set to bowl, Munro update, Agar not done, Siddle named for Strikers

Peter Siddle returns to the Adelaide Strikers squad but isn’t certain to play due to a thumb injury, while the Scorchers offered an update on Colin Munro’s availability ahead of the double game round.

SQUAD NEWS

The Melbourne Stars named their squad on Friday morning for Friday night’s clash with the Adelaide Strikers at the MCG, with Ed Newman ($ TBC – BAT) added as a replacement player.

Left-handed 21-year-old batsman Newman comes into the squad for Test player Will Pucovski ($42k BAT). Nathan Coulter-Nile ($203k BWL) remains outside of the squad due to a calf injury.

Stars coach David Hussey said: “Ed is a powerful middle-order player, who is also an excellent fielder. He’s been putting in good performances in Premier Cricket and he will be a great guy to have amongst the group.”

But the big news was the revelation from Marcus Stoinis ($196k BAT/BWL) that he’s ready to return to bowling after a side strain sustained in late November prevented him all BBL|10.

Stoinis said: “Hopefully it’s this game (I return to bowling), I think it will be. I’ve been fit for probably a week or 10 days, but actually having the chance to bowl in the nets has been a bit of a tough option at the moment (because of travel requirements). We’ve had that (chance) the last couple of days and, everything going well, I’ll play as a bowler next game.”

Stars squad: Maxwell, Cartwright, Elliott, Fletcher, Gotch, Hatcher, Hinchliffe, Zahir Khan, Larkin, Maddinson, Newman, O’Connell, Rainbird, Haris Rauf, Stanlake, Stoinis, Zampa

Peter Siddle ($119k BWL) was included in the Strikers’ 17-man squad to play the Stars, with Rashid Khan ($209k BWL) dropping out for Afghanistan duty.

On Siddle who has a thumb injury, the Strikers said in a statement: “Siddle will complete a rigorous training session on Thursday evening at the MCG and be given every chance to prove his fitness ahead of the return fixture against the Stars.”

Strikers squad: Carey, Agar, Briggs, Conway, Gibson, Nielsen, O’Connor, Johnson, Renshaw, Salt, Scott, Short, Siddle, Valente, Weatherald, Wells, Worrall

UPDATES

Perth Scorchers captain Ashton Turner provided an update on Colin Munro ($141k BAT) who missed their last game due to a quad injury.

Turner said: “I don’t know. I’ve got my fingers crossed. Hopefully he’s back for this one, if not the next one. He’s moving well. The physios have been testing him out, I think he’s very close.”

He also offered good news for owners of Liam Livingstone ($116k BAT/BWL), who seems set to bowl more with Mitch Marsh ($169k BAT/BWL) out.

Turner said: “Not having Mitch isn’t ideal… We’re fortunate we’ve got a few (bowling) options. Liam Livingstone has bowled overs for us in the past and done a really good job.”

And Turner revealed Ash Agar’s ($102k BAT/BWL) season may not actually be over, despite finger and calf injuries appearing to finish his BBL.

Turner said: “He’s got an injury that he hasn’t sustained before so that’s taking some time… He hasn’t been able to pick up a bat yet. He’s starting to walk through his bowling action.”

Rilee Rossouw ($104k BAT) provided an update on FoxCricket regarding his return from a hamstring injury.

Rossouw said: “We’ve got world class staff here, so hopefully (I’m back) next match or the next match after that.”
