Scorchers hoping for Marsh good news, Faulkner update, Sams named

Daniel Sams and Ben Dwarshuis were both named for Wednesday’s Sydney Smash, while Mitch Marsh succumbed to a side injury and the Hurricanes offered a James Faulkner update.

SQUAD NEWS

The Sydney Thunder added Daniel Sams ($188k BAT/BWL) to their 19-man squad to play the Sydney Sixers in Wednesday’s derby in Canberra.

Thunder captain Callum Ferguson all but gave Sams the green light after concussion, when he said: “He felt like he was ready to play within a day or two of copping the head knock but protocols don’t allow that. Now he’s passed all the tests and protocols, he’s ready to go.”

Thunder squad: Ferguson, Billings, Cook, Cutting, Davies, Doggett, Gilkes, Green, Hales, Holt, Khawaja, McAndrew, Milne, Nair, Ross, Sams, J.Sangha, T.Sangha, Tremain

The Sixers named Ben Dwarshuis ($147k BWL) in their 18-man squad for the Sydney Smash although he seems unlikely to play just yet after a minor groin issue.

Sixers stand-in captain Dan Hughes said: “Talking to him and the physio staff, I think tomorrow might be a stretch. We’re not sure yet. He’s probably more likely for Saturday against the Scorchers.”

Sixers squad: Avendano, Ball, Bertus, Bird, Brathwaite, Christian, Dwarshuis, J.Edwards, Hughes, Kerr, Manenti, O’Keefe, Philippe, Pope, Rogers, Sandhu, Silk, Vince

UPDATES

Popular Round 9 trade-in Mitch Marsh ($169k BAT/BWL) injured his side bowling in Tuesday’s win over the Thunder and was subbed out of the game.

Perth coach Adam Voges said on 7Cricket: “Obviously Mitch has just hurt his side bowling there so we’re taking the precautionary measure and we’ve subbed him out.

“He’s OK, hopefully it won’t keep him out for too long, particularly as a batter but obviously there’s a bit of distress at the moment.”

Hobart Hurricanes coach Adam Griffith provided an update on James Faulkner’s ($181k BWL) return from a hamstring on the FoxCricket coverage too.

Griffith said: “He’s going well. He was running up and down the wing here today. He’s bowling off a 1/2 or 3/4 run. Fingers crossed, he’s probably a week or two away.”

It was also worth noting the Scorchers game represented Colin Ingram’s ($109k BAT) last for BBL|10, opening the door for Will Jacks ($109k BAT/BWL) to be elevated as their third import.

Renegades coach Michael Klinger declared Shaun Marsh ($137k BAT) will return for Thursday’s game against the Heat.

Klinger said: “Shaun Marsh is available. He had a little boy Ted over the last few days. He’s flying in to Melbourne on Tuesday so he’ll be back in the team.”

TOMORROW
