SQUAD NEWS
The Adelaide Strikers named a 17-man squad to play the Melbourne Stars on Monday night in Adelaide, confirming it would be Rashid Khan’s ($207k BWL) final BBL|10 game before he flies out for Afghanistan duty.
They also revealed that Peter Siddle ($119k BWL) had sustained a fractured thumb in Friday’s loss to the Renegades and will miss the game.
The Strikers said in a statement: “Will not feature against the Melbourne Stars at Adelaide Oval on Monday after scans revealed a thumb fracture.
“With a five-day break before the return Stars fixture at the MCG (Jan 15), it is hopeful that Siddle will again be available for selection.”
Rashid Khan nominated Liam O’Connor ($109k BWL) as his likely replacement. Khan said: “He has the skill, he has the talent. Last year when he got an opportunity he delivered, he got wickets with a good economy.”
Strikers squad: Carey, Agar, Briggs, Conway, Gibson, Nielsen, O’Connor, Johnson, Rashid Khan, Renshaw, Salt , Scott, Short, Valente, Weatherald, Wells, Worrall
Nic Maddinson ($87k BAT) is back in the Melbourne Stars squad after an ankle sprain with the club naming a 15-man squad to play the Strikers in Adelaide on Monday.
The Stars said in a statement: “Nic Maddinson returns to the squad after recovering from a sprained ankle in place of Nicholas Pooran ($116k WKP/BAT), who has returned home.”
With Pooran gone, Zahir Khan ($85k BWL) comes into calculations as their third import too. He’s yet to take a wicket in three BBL|10 games.
Stars squad: Maxwell, Cartwright, Dunk, Fletcher, Gotch, Hatcher, Hinchliffe, Zahir Khan, Larkin, Maddinson, Rainbird, Haris Rauf, Stanlake, Stoinis, Zampa
