Maxwell & Stoinis granted leave, Conway close, Nabi & Paul available

The Melbourne Stars appeased a lot of SuperCoaches concerns about resting key players with a big announcement, while there’s a selection dilemma brewing with the Strikers on the double too.

UPDATES

In light of Adam Zampa ($178k BWL) being granted leave by the Stars, there were fears of a rest for Glenn Maxwell ($180k BAT/BWL) and Marcus Stoinis ($168k BAT/BWL) in the near future.

But the Stars confirmed on Thursday that Maxwell, Stoinis, Zampa, Nic Maddinson ($83k BAT), Ben Dunk ($61k BAT/WKP) and Seb Gotch ($62k WKP/BAT) had all been granted time off to leave the bio-secure hub while they have no games in the near future.

The Stars have the bye this round and they’ll all be available for their next game on Boxing Day in Round 4. Long story short, that should appease any concerns about a Maxwell or Stoinis rest.

The make-up of the Strikers attack for their double game Round 3 is unclear, with Harry Conway ($90k BWL) in the mix to return after concussion.

Adelaide said in a statement: “He’s ‘resolving concussion’ and should be available for selection come the weekend.”

Fellow Strikers bowler Michael Neser ($142k BAT/BWL) wasn’t in the Test XI and it’s unclear if he or any of those who missed out will be released at any stage.

The Renegades posted a video of Afghan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi ($191k BAT/BWL) at training, showing that he’s out of quarantine and available for their next game on Saturday.

Likewise the Hurricanes had a photo of Keemo Paul ($125k BAT/BWL) on social media bowling in the nets, having arrived in Australia on Wednesday. Interestingly, he only bowled five overs in the West Indies A game last week, including none in the second innings.

CALL-UPS

It’s hard to really know what to glean from the Australia Test XI and if they’ll release any of the players not in the side, especially with bio-secure bubbles and concussion subs.

For what it’s worth, James Pattinson ($162k BWL) was officially 12th man.

TOMORROW

Another quiet day but we’ll get the squads (hopefully!) for Saturday’s two game between the Hurricanes and Renegades.
