Lions & Pies name debutants, Witherden & Cameron axed, McGrath out for 6 weeks

Brisbane and Collingwood have both confirmed debutants for Friday’s match, offering AFL Fantasy and SuperCoach coaches handy downgrade options, while Essendon confirmed Andrew McGrath’s absence.

TEAM NEWS

Ins: K.Coleman (debutant), D.Rich, L.Greenwood, M.Lynch (debutant)

Outs: A.Witherden, L.McCarthy (suspended), C.Maybe (injured), D.Cameron

Keidean Coleman (AF $198k SC $117k MID/FWD) comes in for the Lions. He was pick 37 in the 2019 AFL Draft as an academy product.

Lions coach Chris Fagan said: “He deserves his chance. He’s had some fantastic performances at reserves level.

“He’s a really clever half-forward, beautiful skills, great balance, good tackler.”

He comes into the side for the suspended Lincoln McCarthy (AF $434k SC $352k FWD), while Alex Witherden (AF $659k SC $467k DEF) has made way for the returning Daniel Rich (AF $521k SC $392k DEF).

Archie Smith (AF $259k SC $185k RUCK) is fit again, but hasn’t displaced Tom Fullarton (AF $208k SC $123k FWD).

Collingwood have selected debutant Max Lynch (AF $170k SC $123k RUCK) who is a 200cm ruckman. Lynch was pick 51 in 2017 AFL rookie draft and is now 21-years-old, so he’s been in the system for a few years.

His selection leads to the omission of well-owned Collingwood tall Darcy Cameron (AF $361k SC $255k RUCK/FWD).

Chris Mayne (AF $486k SC $330k MID) is out injured, replaced by Levi Greenwood (AF $468k SC $355k MID) while Trey Ruscoe (AF $224k SC $161k MID/FWD) doesn’t earn a recall.

BOMBER BLOW

Andrew McGrath‘s (AF $684k SC $503k MID) season is practically over with the Bombers confirming a syndesmosis diagnosis and ruling him out for a minimum of six weeks, potentially more.

Essendon head of medical services David Rundle said: “Andrew has sustained a moderate-grade syndesmosis injury. “These injuries can be managed either surgically or conservatively.

“He will have a consultation with an orthopaedic surgeon in Brisbane tomorrow to determine whether he should undergo a surgical stabilisation procedure. Either way he would typically be expected to miss a minimum of six weeks.

“We also have a couple of other players that have pulled up sore (from the West Coast game). We will give them every opportunity to prove their fitness with decisions on their availability to be made later in the week.”

Tom Bellchambers (AF $426k SC 314k RUCK) has also been ruled out of Sunday’s clash with Geelong with his ongoing knee issue, which is provides some job security for Sam Draper (AF $334k SC $271k RUCK) owners, although Andrew Phillips (AF $505k SC $389k RUCK) is available.
