The big news is Max Gawn (AF $920k SC $721k RUCK) will not play with a combination of shoulder and knee issues, with coach Simon Goodwin pinpointing a PCL issue.

Goodwin said: “Max won’t play. He did some running yesterday and he’s starting his progression forward. We’re really confident for the following week.

“We wanted to hold him off as long as we could. He’s still not quite at the level we’d like him to be able to play.

“He’s a bit of a risk. He’s got a slight PCL in that knee with a bit of swelling which has subsided. With a full week of training next week, he’ll be ready to go.”

Luke Jackson (AF $313k SC $264k RUCK) will miss with a hamstring too. Goodwin said: “Not great timing with Max out. Obviously he pulled up a bit sore. Upon scanning, he had a hamstring injury. He’s going to be 4-6 weeks.”

Collingwood skipper Scott Pendlebury (AF $749k SC $536k MID) is “right to go” after a quad injury, while Brayden Sier (AF $478k SC $288k MID) has been ruled out long-term with a thigh issue.

Michael Walters (AF $727k SC $550k MID/FWD) returns for Freo but coach Justin Longmuir flagged he’ll play a bit up forward.

Longmuir said: “He’ll split time between midfield and forward with Fyfe. I think he’ll add a bit of polish up forward.”

Carlton have lost ruckman Marc Pittonet to a finger injury suffered against West Coast, which further depletes ruck options.

The Blues website said: “A finger injury sustained in the game against the Eagles has ruled Pittonet out, with the ruckman likely to be sidelined for 1-2 weeks.”

DEBUTANT ALERT
Carlton have confirmed Josh Honey (AF $170k SC $124k MID/FWD) will make his debut on Saturday. He’s a 2019 NAB AFL Rookie Draft selection and is 184cm 18-year-old.

DOGS REST/RETURN
Laitham Vandermeer
(AF $414k SC $262k MID/FWD) will be managed by the Western Bulldogs for their game against Adelaide on Sunday.

Dogs coach Luke Beveridge said: “We’re going to give Laitham a rest. There’s too many red flags this week with him to enter into Sunday’s game.”

Lachie Hunter (AF $751k SC $513k MID) has been confirmed to return, while Bailey Smith (AF $569k SC $513k MID/FWD) will play despite scans in midweek.

On Hunter, Beveridge said: “Lachie trained with the group this morning, he’ll be part of the 22. This week he seems to have all the bases covered, so he’ll play.”

On Smith, Beveridge said: “Bailey Smith is fine and he’ll play.”

Ben Cavarra (AF $173k SC $123k FWD), who played Round One but hasn’t been seen since, is back in contention too.

Beveridge said: “Cav has had a pretty good form line over the last few scratch matches so he’s definitely one under consideration this week.”

Jason Johannisen (AF $557k SC $411k DEF) will miss out due to injury but Beveridge said it’s only minor.

OTHERS
Seb Ross
(AF $528k SC $378k MID) is close to returning while Zak Jones (AF $612k SC $453k MID) will “definitely” play according to Saints coach Brett Ratten which may impact Jack Bytel’s (AF $194k SC $123k MID) selection.

Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks is “really confident” Rory Sloane (AF $559k SC $486k MID) will play this round after a hand injury, which may impact Harry Schoenberg’s (AF $242k SC $138k MID) selection.

Shane McAdam (AF $374k SC $272k FWD) missed Friday training with a sore throat, which is treated more seriously nowadays but Nicks said he’s confident he’ll be available.

Gold Coast offered an update on one-gamer Jeremy Sharp’s (AF $219k SC $117k MID) hip injury.

Suns Head Physiotherapist Lindsay Bull said: “Jeremy experienced some mild discomfort in the anterior aspect of his hip post game and with the shorter turnaround into Round 11, we wanted to ensure he recovered fully.”

Freo coach Justin Longmuir ruled out rookie Sam Sturt (AF $237k SC $195k FWD) for the rest of the season with his ankle injury after surgery on Thursday.

North Football GM Brady Rawlings provided an update on Curtis Taylor’s (AF $381k SC $266k FWD) knee injury. Rawlings said: “Curtis Taylor is recovering well and we’re hoping to have him out of his brace soon and available in the coming weeks.”

The Kangas have also ruled out Ben Cunnington (AF $634k SC $562k MID) for the rest of the season with his back issue.

TOMORROW
Alastair Clarkson will speak to the media, but we’ve got three games of footy and the 22s will be confirmed for Sunday’s three games too.
