Lions trio omitted, Cotchin ruled out, Smith & Hamill updates

It was a quiet Friday amid the footy frenzy, but Round 11 teams for Saturday’s games were confirmed even while Round 10 isn’t over while Adelaide offered an update on Brodie Smith and Will Hamill.

TEAM NEWS
Ins: Scott Lycett, Jarrod Lienert, Josh Caddy, Daniel Rioli, Daniel Rich, Grant Birchall, Dan McStay, Matt Eagles, Ryan Gardner, Aaron Naughton, Bailey Dale
Outs: Sam Mayes (suspended), Justin Westhoff, Trent Cotchin (managed), Jack Higgins, Sam Skinner, Connor Ballenden, Jack Payne, Cam Rayner (injured), Hayden Crozier (injured), Rourke Smith, Cody Weightman

Port youngster Boyd Woodcock (AF $185k SC $102k FWD) gets another go, while cheap Brisbane trio Sam Skinner (AF $283k SC $130k FWD), Connor Ballenden (AF $187k SC $131k FWD) and Jack Payne (AF $179k SC $123k DEF) have all made way after brief stints in the side.

Richmond ruled out veteran Trent Cotchin (AF $621k SC $475k MID) as they manage his workload amid the condensed schedule.

Tigers coach Damien Hardwick said: “He won’t board the plane but he will obviously be right for nine or 10 days later.”

Scott Lycett (AF $645k SC $538k RUCK) returns to play alongside Pete Ladhams (AF $514k RUCK/FWD) who posted a monster score last round.

Port coach Ken Hinkley said: “Scott will play, he’ll come into the side. We’re going to play both the rucks in the game this week and have a look at that.”

BRODIE BACK
Brodie Smith
(AF $652k SC $406k DEF/MID*) was a late withdrawal in Round 10 but is set to return for the Crows in Round 11.

Adelaide Head of Science and Medicine Steve Saunders said: “Brodie was very close, he was disappointed not to be out there playing.

“He’s continued to improve and we expect him to be right for the game.”

Will Hamill (AF $303k SC $215k DEF) seems unlikely to play in Round 11 after suffering his second concussion of the year against Melbourne on Wednesday.

Saunders said: “He‘ll follow the normal concussion protocols over the next week and be assessed daily.

“The docs are taking a very conservative line given it’s the second concussion he’s had this year.”

TOMORROW
We’ve got two games of footy with Port-Richmond starting at 4:35pm AEST, when all bye players will be locked in. Brisbane-Bulldogs follows that. We’ll also have team selection for Sunday’s games between West Coast-Carlton and Melbourne-North Melbourne and Simon Goodwin fronts the media at 3pm AEST to offer an update on Max Gawn before lockout.
