Yeo suspended, Pendlebury confirms lengthy absence, Georgiades chance
The AFL Match Review Officer (MRO) came down hard on Monday while Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury spoke about the extent of the injury which forced him to be a late withdrawal on Sunday.
A lot of coaches have jumped on Elliot Yeo (AF $667k SC $499k MID) lately but on Monday he was offered a one-game ban after being charged with striking.
The AFL’s MRO statement read: “Has been charged with Striking Rupert Wills… In summary he can accept a one-match sanction with an early plea.
“Based on the available evidence, the incident was assessed as Intentional Conduct, Low Impact and High Contact. The incident was classified as a one-match sanction.”
West Coast may challenge the ban for an incident which appeared relatively innocuous.
Essendon’s Kyle Langford (AF $583k SC $396k MID/FWD) and Brisbane’s Daniel McStay (AF $398K SC $336k FWD) were offered one and two-match bans in forceful front-on contact incidents.
Collingwood skipper Scott Pendlebury (AF $749k SC $536k MID) revealed he may miss the next couple of games after scans confirmed he’d suffered a quad strain.
“It was my last kick for the warm-up session, I just felt a little pinch in my quad and had scans this morning and there’s a little strain there,” Pendlebury told collingwoodfc.com.au.
“I’ll probably miss the next couple of games which is unfortunate. I think we made the right call not to play. If there’s a little strain there and you continue to play or try and play through that, it might rip into something far more significant.”
Don’t forget, Steele Sidebottom (AF $800k SC $551k MID) is available to return for Collingwood’s next game.
Anyone who hung on to Mitch Georgiades (AF $285k SC $179k FWD) will be quietly happy to read that Port Adelaide forward Todd Marshall (AF $469k SC $367k FWD) will miss the next six weeks due to thumb surgery.
Port ruckman Scott Lycett (AF $645k SC $538k RUCK) will need to undergo another fitness test to prove he’s recovered from a knee injury again.
Geelong confirmed they’ll be without Darcy Fort (AF $415k SC $372k RUCK/FWD*) and Luke Dahlhaus (AF $504k SC $379k FWD) for a few games due to foot soreness and a heel injury respectively.
We’ve got a busy day with Luke Beveridge, Damien Hardwick, John Longmire and Leon Cameron speaking to the media, plus Mitch Duncan, Brad Sheppard, Adam Saad and the Crows rookies. The teams for Wednesday’s Bulldogs-Richmond game will also be announced.
