R8 Rolling Injury Report: Pendlebury quad issue, Walters injured

Stay up to date throughout the round with our rolling injury report from the coaches post-game. With the fixtures coming thick, fast and ad-hoc, more than ever, these snippets of info will be key.
Fremantle v Geelong
Michael Walters (AF $727k SC $550k MID/FWD) appeared to suffer a hamstring injury late. Freo coach Justin Longmuir said: “There’s a concern. We’re hoping it’s cramp. That’s the diagnosis at the moment. We’ll see it pulls up. Scan him. Fingers crossed.”
Freo also lost Darcy Tucker (AF $534k SC $333k MID/FWD) early to a hamstring strain which Longmuir called “a bad one”, while late withdrawal Brennan Cox (AF $404k SC $345k FWD) continues to battle with a hip problem. Blake Acres (AF $492k SC $347k MID/FWD) also had a cork.
Longmuir also said provided an update on Nat Fyfe (AF $714k SC $639k MID) who he said “will almost definitely come in (next round)”.
Geelong coach Chris Scott provided updates on Joel Selwood (AF $622k SC $505k MID) and Jack Steven (AF $556k SC $313k MID/FWD).
On Selwood, Scott said: “I’m optimistic actually. He was pretty close this week… We’d need to be really sure but it’s on the table.” On Steven, Scott said: “We’re taking the long view with Jack. He’s got a training program which we think will have him to right to play through this period with short breaks but we don’t intend to play him every game.”
Brisbane Lions v Melbourne
Daniel Rich (AF $591k SC $474k DEF) sustained a hamstring injury which is likely to sideline him. Lions coach Chris Fagan said: “He was obviously not good enough to go back on. Scans tomorrow, bit of an assessment. I wouldn’t think he’d be right in 5 days… but he could still run.”
Neville Jetta (AF $262k SC $240k DEF) copped a few heavy hits and had a concussion test but Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin said he’s “fine”.
West Coast v Collingwood
Scott Pendlebury (AF $749k SC $536k MID) was a late withdrawal for Collingwood during the warm-up with a quad issue.
Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley said: “He was tight in the back during the week. He felt a bit tight in the quad. He’s generally knows his body really well and felt like he couldn’t kick and was worried about doing some damage to his quad.”
Callum Brown (AF $427k SC $332k FWD) spent time off with an ankle complaint but Buckley said “he should be OK”.
West Coast lost Jeremy McGovern (AF $514k SC $456k DEF) as a late withdrawal with a thumb problem, while Luke Shuey (AF $671k SC $507k MID) dislocated his finger but coach Adam Simpson was optimistic about both.
Adelaide v Essendon
Tom Doedee (AF $524k SC $433k DEF) and Brad Crouch (AF $730k SC $494k MID) both suffered hamstring injuries for Adelaide.
Crows coach Matthew Nicks said: “We don’t know to what extent. Fingers crossed they’re not major ones.
“Talking to Tom post-game, he’s reasonably confident he might’ve got it early. Brad, I’m not sure about yet, we’ll have to wait & see.”
Jayden Laverde (AF $402k SC $340k FWD) suffered an ankle injury which Essendon coach John Worsfold said would likely make him unavailable for next week, at least.
Port Adelaide v St Kilda
There were a few niggles but nothing to report for Port coach Ken Hinkley. St Kilda coach Brett Ratten revealed Dan Hannebery (AF $583k SC $375k MID) has re-injured his hamstring and will be out for a significant period of time.
Ratten said: “Dan had a bit of a setback yesterday when he was doing some rehab training. He’s re-injured that hamstring. He had scans today, it looks like it’ll be a lengthy out.”
Sebastian Ross (AF $558k SC $409k MID) didn’t finish the game for the Saints with what appeared to be a calf problem but Ratten said they were “all good”.
Sydney v Hawthorn
Dane Rampe (AF $431k SC $420k DEF) hurt his hand but played the game out. Swans coach John Longmire said he didn’t know the extent of the problem.
North Melbourne v Carlton
Popular Carlton midfielder Patrick Cripps (AF $702k SC $520k MID) picked up a knock but played the game out.
Carlton coach David Teague explained: “I’m not sure what it was. I had him on the board but they said he wont be starting the last (quarter) but he came out and was right. It looked like he got a boot to the belly.”
Mitch McGovern (AF $426k SC $307k FWD) suffered hamstring tightness, while Harry McKay (AF $376k SC $272k FWD) was a late withdrawal after hyper-extending his knee at training on Thursday, although he was close to playing.
Callum Moore (AF $254k SC $186k FWD) was the late inclusion, making his Carlton debut, after joining in the supplemental period having played eight games for Richmond previously.
Kyron Hayden (AF $256k SC $220k MID) had a knee issue but played the game out. Kangas coach Rhyce Shaw said: “He had a bit of a knee knock so he had a bit of swelling. But he proved last week how tough he is. He wasn’t complaining. He wanted to get out there and finish the job.”
GWS Giants v Richmond
No new injuries, although Tigers coach Damien Hardwick confirmed they’d regain Trent Cotchin (AF $606k SC $469k MID) for Wednesday’s match against the Bulldogs.
Hardwick also flagged rookie Riley Collier-Dawkins (AF $170k SC $123k MID) would come into contention. Hardwick said: “Riley Collier-Dawkins will be thereabouts also. We need to find some guys to propel the ball forward, we were a bit disappointed in our midfield tonight.”
Gold Coast v Western Bulldogs
Debutant Cal Porter (AF $170k SC $123k MID) suffered a shoulder knock which forced him off the field but he did return. Dogs coach Luke Beveridge said: “It’s a shame (to get hurt)… but I think his shoulder is going to be OK.”
